Just a couple of things buzzing around my head while I try to aviod working.
I don't think anyone is basing their opinion of Trindall on yesterday alone. He has had two hit-outs this year, one trial and one not (though still not a 'round' game, given). For mine, what I was looking to see was how he compared to the other players on the field for more general things. I wasn't looking for Andrew Johns, just an indication of his development generally. How was his speed, awareness, fitness, that sort of stuff. The main issue, and one that carried over from last year, is that he doesn't look above any of the reggies guys, and looks behind the guys with some/lots first grade experience. He demonstrates a big boot (very handy) but not a great deal of nouse (very concerning). His involvement isn't that great, though he seems tough and fit enough. Basically where he was coming into first grade... and not an improvement along the lines a number of the younger Sharks guys are showing.
So what do we do with him?
You can't start him if Moylan is fit. Having that boot is great but not enough to push Mozza's TA ability out.
You could put him on the bench, but other guys probably serve the team better as a utility and he's not going to get too much action at 6/7.
You could start him in reggies and let him work on his half game. Though he's not getting experience at NRL level there.
I see why we resigned him, but i don't know where the improvement is goiong to come from. We could take a high risk punt and put him in, but there's no real evidence to back that up. If I was Fitz I couldn't put my first year on his shoulders.
