Why offer metcalf for taylor when you can just play metcalf

… and when you could have had Taylor for minimum wage 10 weeks ago.

Hypothetical 1 - If Moylan goes down and Trindall struggles, we chuck Metcalf in at 6 - knowing he is going at the end of the year, it'd be bittersweet if him and Hynes strike up a good combination. It would also leave us at square one start of 2023.

Hypothetical 2 - If Moylan goes down and Trindall struggles and we nab Taylor, we set up the opportunity for the two of Hynes and Taylor to strike up a good combination leading into 2023.

... and why didn't we get Taylor for minimum wage? He'd still be cheap, and I guess I thought Trindall would have continued on his development and played better at both the All Stars game and against the Panthers NSW Cup side. Hindsight is a bitch.

All the talk about getting another halfback.
Hynes is our 7 and will be for the rest of his career.
If we are worried about Moylan, Metcalf we should be looking for another 6 not a half.

If Moylan gets injured and Trindall doesn’t become the player we’re hoping he is and Rivett sets the world on fire in the lower grades could we possibly see a Hynes 6, Rivett 7 combo in 2023?

Where are all the peanuts that wrote him off after a bad trial game ? Expect every one of them to be in here praising him after a good trial game

I didn't think that he was particularly impressive. Nabbed a try but also made some poor errors. Most of his kicks were bad - but he got 4 lucky bounces. He's not getting those every week.

His defence was much better this week - which makes sense since he had actual NRL players either side of him.

I think he is exactly where he should be on the roster. He's an above average replacement half, but would be a below average starter. If he is playing a supporting role to Hynes the team will be OK. I'd be scared going in to the game with him running the show.

FWIW I thought Nicho was pretty clunky at times too. Did some great stuff but also had a few ordinary touches.

He went well .
5th tackle kicks were well weighted .
Stuffed up once , but he didn't realise it was 5th , would have done better
Will be adequate back up for Moylan .
Credit where credit is due , vast improvement on last week.

Hasn’t grabbed the bull by the horns with his 2 opps this season but I’m not writing him off just yet either.
The all stars game he was playing behind a beaten pack with players he is unfamiliar with.
Again the trial yesterday is a similar scenario. We kept making errors (him included granted) so we never really got going. He was also playing with a lot of kids so again probably a bit unfamiliar.
I still think a trial with the main squad would have been a better indicator but now with his suspension he won’t get that opp. Shame.

Not sure who you are aiming your post at but my post above isn’t having a dig.
I thought he played pretty well in “our structure” so think he has a role to play.
Yep, he made a mistake or two but so does everyone else in every game.
He is still very young and I still see a lot of up side to him.

Getting a bit emotional there Dad. But that’s you. As Burgo said he wasn’t all that impressive.
Now before you start blustering and berating me, I am a fan of Trindall but he’s not someone who can run the show. He’s not quite there yet. They were only trials I know but he’s still not a cut above.

Still kicking into people's legs... I just don't get it. His short kicking game seems to be centred around getting a lucky ricochet.

Thought his defence was excellent though. In tonight's near full strength line up I think I could see him as a 14, with his future maybe as distributing 13 / hooker cover.

Wasn’t at you - the people that dug into him for having one bad trial game alongside kids he’s never played with need to keep that same energy when he has a good trial game lol
