Porter at least deserves a go with a performing team for a change. How about we wait until Kelly actually plays even 1 NRL game for us before rating him...

I believe the only reason people may look at porter with some mediocracy is because of his age, but if he was a 21 year old and he made his first grade debut playing the way he did this yr, ppl would be saying "hell yeah, hes going to be good enough to play rep footy!!!" but because hes in his mid twenties, ppl think he wont develop anymore.

Cooper cronk didnt really develop until 2 yrs ago when he hit the 23, 24 mark, check scotty prince out when he was 24 he was written off yeah? then wests had thier one and only season and he has developed himself into a superstar.

There is still plenty of time for porter to become a great footballer.

ive seen toyota cup and nsw cup with him playing and he has more talent in his left toe than porters whole body....... i know everyone likes porter but look at his try assists line break assits and trys from last year, not very good numbers ( and yes i do realise that we had injurys sacking ect ) besides kicking he is the same as any players playing park footy

I am not going to defend Porter as that is not the way I really want to go here. My point is that I have seen Kelly play a few NYC games as well, I am going to assume not as many as you but as I am sure you would know the step up to NRL level is something totally different and any NYC superstars still have to adapt and may get lost in this much bigger pond. Just ask Ben Barba. Add to that he is now joining a new team where he must fit in with a new system.

So Albert Kelly may be our long-term option, he shows alot of promise. However I just get a bit sick of everyone on here acting like he is the Messiah because he has performed well in NYC and is Inglis' cousin. He hasn't played one NRL game for any club and hasn't played for our club at any level so it imo it is foolish to rate him over Porter already who really is the first person who has even looked like he could replace Noddy (in patches). But again I do not want to overate or underate Porter. He needs the first opportunity with a full team not under pressure and then if he can't deliver then it is time to look around, possibly in Kelly's direction.

yeah fair call. but when u look at nyc stars comming into to firsts most have killed it ( barba the exception ) crocker dugan mead gordon locke. im just think he has the xfactor that we need. and i cant see porter having that same effect

How can you bag porter??..he came into our team and we won four in a row and ran a team around the park that kept competitive in most games which was constantly changing and understrength! Please dont bag him til we see what he can do with a full team that he has ha a proper chance to train an develope with!

I dont think people are necessarily bagging Porter, just saying he might not be what we require at the moment. (He has no tries, one line break, and next to no tackle busts, they are pretty average stats)

And yes we did win four (or five?), straight games when he started playing for us, but, if you look it was deadset against the bottom four teams (excluding us), as soon as we played any of the quality teams we again returned to losing.

I for one cant wait to see a genuine ball running threat at 1/2 or 5/8 in sharkies colours, for mine the Barrett, Porter combination is the SLOWEST 1/2's pairing in the NRL (By far), saying that Barrett is quality.

Without Porter we get the spoon in 09. I can't believe how unfair and ungrateful you guys are being to Porter. He saved our arses and he deserves a shot.

Anyone with half a brain realises how important pre seasons are, they make or break a players season.

Wouldnt this be porter`s first pre season with the top 25? last yr while everyone was training thier arse of, dropping ball, porter was out mowing lawns.

Porter can seriously improve his speed and footwork another 100 percent with a full preseason with the top 25, just you wait and see ;)

I agree Hitman.

I think maybe there's a chance that Porter was an ace up Ricky Stuart's sleeve. The whole story just seems too weird.
