He`d also have more confidence wouldnt you think? I mean, stepping into first grade halfway through the season, sure he was fully part of our team, but would you truly feel 100 percent accepted? I could imagine playing in the halves confidence is everything, and when porter does a full 6 months of summer training, hes going to feel like the 7 jersey is his, and could quite possibly have more confidence to show us some great speed, foot work and line breaks- he`s a good size for a half yeah? Id love to see him knock peter wallace arse up.

Of course. When he came in during the season he probably hadn't played with most of the Sharks. A half back needs to know his team and know the teams tactics. He'll be better this year for that.

If we can sign Thurston we will. Porter is good, but he's not Thurston.

Barrett will be gone next year anyway, so there's nothing wrong with Thurston in #6 and Porter in #7 - Thurston only started playing #7 when he started playing origin and had to move to accomodate Lockyer.

If he can fix his handling, passing and positioning (which are 3 massive things quite obviously) then he will be great for us.

If Fosters didn't taste like cr@p, make you feel sick and give you a headache it would be great beer.

If you don't know how to catch, pass and defend by 26 then you are not a good footballer.

6) Kelly
7) Townsend

Problem solvered.

Porter's an injury prone stop-gap while we wait a year or two for those to to come together. Kelly might start at fullback in 1sts but will shift to 6 in the end, and Townsend may not be sighted for a season or so in the nrl but he'll be there eventually.

The argument's shouldn't be Porter vs Kelly as much as Porter vs Morris vs Townsend to partner Baz for (hopefully) 2 more years before Kelly takes over at 5/8th.

As for Thurston- great player, probably a tosser, I don't really want him here. Typical attempt to buy a premiership rather than building a club to a very high standard... we've been through this before, and discussed its merits before. No thanks, but it doesn't matter- he's going to the Broncos anyway.

Honestly, why would you buy Thurston?

He would be asking an outrageous amount which would require us to let go of a number of players. Yes, he is good, but it's not worth sacrificing the rest of the team for him. Furthermore, he is only getting older. North Queensland currently have a very average squad and Thurston is the reason. Without him, they aren’t worth a pinch of ****. I'd hate to see us go down that path, particularly when we have some promising young fellas coming through.

I honestly can’t understand the Porter criticism either. He played bloody well, despite not being a full time squad member and losing his mother mid-season. I’m quite happy to put some faith in the bloke.

I agree, if we did sign him, its likely to be the biggest contract of his career, it would be something obscene, like a 5 yr deal for 500 k a season, as soon as pen hit paper, he would start to put his feet up, and he would most likely become the lemon like we are used to signing, ross and vagana come to mind here.

We need to buy the next Jennings of the next Thurston. Teams that buy players of the moment are stupid, it rarely works out.

As for Thurston, the only way we'd ever get him is if he chose the highest bidder, and we made the highest bid. Can you imagine how stupid that would be? Signing him, signing a player that went to the highest bidder and doesn't really give a crap, and paying more than anyone else was willing to? Stupid. We'll never win like that. Leave crap like that to the Rorters.

Your right, Im trying my hardest to think of a player who has been purchased during the prime of his career, then has gone on to forfill his side of the deal with his club. Only guys I can think of are maybe mick crocker- although he is much cheaper and not someone you base your team around, scott prince, and wasnt brad fitler playing a few yrs at penrith before going to the roosters? anyway buying the next big thing seems a lot easier said, I mean, we bought filiga and look what happened.

Im so suprised people didnt see someone like GI or israel sticking out like dogs balls in qld cup and didnt throw a huge contract at him, i mean, obviously storm did, but I wish we did it sooner.

That makes me wonder, we had matt king at one stage yeah and he was absoloute ****e with us, so he farks off, stops playing league, starts collecting glasses at pubs, decides to play qld cup again and storm see him and develop him into a gun.

Maybe over the past decade we havent been good enough as a club to make someone with extreme potential into the next big thing, it works both ways yeah?

But now we have ET on board coaching our backs I believe we are fully equiped to create a superstar.

robbie kearns, nikau, went better when they left cronulla, gordan tallis and jason stevens went better when they left saints its do able but i must agree that if ur over 25 then ur growth as a player will start to slow down....... but who is the next thurston or jennings ?
remember jordan atkins 16 yr old titans half back that played a game and done sfa since they boosted him as the next big thing and we havnt seen him in 1sts for 2 years

Get your facts straight mate, you don't know what you're talking about!!!

Jordan Atkins is a winger and has been at the fringe in the Titans for the last two seasons. Had a blinder in his first game and scored 4 tries including the infamous 'air jordan' try.

You probably mean Jordan Rankin? If so he was still in year 11 when he first played, and I believe the Titans gave him 2009 off to do some religious mission in Africa because he's a Mormon or something like that.

So you reckon a 16 year old still in school is crap because he didn't keep a first grade spot over Scott Prince???

If this guy was available we should chase him hard.

Yeah i think he meant Jordan Rankin and you were almost right about him but he wasnt the one who went on the mission, that was another guy i think also named Jordan who was a winger. Rankin was still playing last year for the titans lower grades and just couldnt get a start cos prince didnt get injured for a change. I believe he played some young rep games as i remember seeing him in the RLW lineup for a rep team of some kind but forget which one.

Yeah I knew there was three Jordans haha.

You're right, Rankin is still in the NYC squad. What was the other Jordan's name? Ropira or something like that?

Jordan Rapana went on the Mormon mission. He'll resume with the Titans in 2011.

Jordan Atkins scored that freakish try in his debut, one of four that night as Mark mentioned.

Jordan Rankin was the 16 year old who played halfback that one time in 2008. He is still with the Titans steering their NYC team around. He'll be off contract at the end of 2010.

to the "anti" porter comments i think you guys are wrong in bagging him personally i liked watching porter play seriously i think and alot of sharkie fans think he played better footy than barrett for the rest of the year. if you think porter is an injury worry look at barrett..i must admit barrett soldiered on from the big hits than he used to in st.chokers but like seriously porter is a player we can not lose.

we should go after jennings for centers.
