Well if those lists are anything to go by, Feleti Mateo would be an awesome signing.

Other than that, I'm happy to support the Greg Bird calls.

Bird aint coming back, give it up guys :sticky:

Pretty sure he still has his appeal pending for the Milligan incident and the other one at Fusion. Plus, the sharks have moved on from controversy and dont need any more negative press.

In regards to 2011, we should persist with our own juniors, plus a few old heads could be a good idea to steady the ship

BUGGER! :hissy

You can scratch Daniel Vidot from that list already. Damn raiders... they've resigned Tilse and Vidot in the last couple of days, the future's looking bright over there if they can find a stable half and hooker- rep or potential rep players in Croker, Monaghan, Vidot, Shillington, Harrison, Campese, Milne, Tilse, Learoyd-Lahrs, Waddell all signed up on long term deals. Just Dugan and the Tongue left to resign.

We're three years behind them.

I think we have to stay we the young blokes or the really cheap older players. We can't afford to pay overs for players anymore. The Storm have been pretty good at picking up young players and turning them into superstars. That is what we need to do.

last i heard he was in talks with the titans but havent heard nothin about him since... i guess it all depends on if he thinks the club treated him fairly and if we have enough money to get him back and if the club thinks it will ruin its new positive image or not

Titans only have 60 a yr to spend, roosters are about to unload 400k, that to me basically sums up where he is going.

Well not really Ryles would be no less the 250 so I think they will be offering him a backend deal until mason leaves at the end of this year or sooner.

Greg Bird I have an Idea for ya.

Come back and play a year for free give the money to a charity prove that you are better then what the media says and what most think.

1 year to prove yourself bird you can do it!

Then we pay what your worth.

Honestly I don't see him coming back.

I agree, Bird should clear his name (after the court case) offer to pay for $150,000 with $100,000 of that going to womens charities and come play for us, then we give him what he's really worth in 2011. Do it bird!

Bird will be in a green tracksuite in a few weeks, I would rather see that than see him at another club.

Im not so sure about the women`s charities bit, by doing that he is admitting he is a woman basher who needs help.

Saying things in court like " then she went superman over me" shows to me how intelligent he is, Im not saying one bad thing about him because he is a player I adored, but lets face it, he aint too bright, he made a mistake in the heat of the moment, and his actions afterwards were just as bad, maybe even worse than the actual event

Make no mistake, he is angry at the club, I believe a lot of his motivation for coming back to the nrl is going to be to shove it up our arse, the last thing he would want to do is be apart of our success.

If you were him would you really want to play for the thousands of fans that were idolising him one day, and looking down on him, calling him every name in the book the next? I doubt it.

To be honest Im not sure he can get back to his absoloute best. The amount of stress and trauma this must have caused would have been extremely detrimental, 2 years ago, mentally he would have felt on top of the world, now he has been to hell and back.
You can actually even see the toll it has taken in his face lately, he looks like he has aged a great deal, he is even going grey, his face is much fatter and he doesnt look as healthy.

Look at michael vick, came back to the NFL after 2 yrs out of the game, he was the best, freakiest natural athlete Ive ever seen, now he is a shadow of his former self.

2008 was our window of opportunity, now it is gone, and we all need to accept that and let this team rebuild. Truth is even Gals might be passed it when we are a real premiership contender again.

Time to let go of the bird, as much as I love him.

I agree with Hitman, mostly. Except for the bit about fans abandoning him- he let us down before a finals series, and I'm still hurting from it. Doesn't matter anymore, old ground.

Yes we miss Bird now, and with him I think we'd be a good crack of making the eight next year. But I also agree that 2008 was our chance, not 2010.

My personal stand- let Greg Bird do whatever he wants, play for whomever he wants, it won't be for us and that's fine. New image (no d!ckheads doing dumb stuff), new generation. Build a team on solid foundations, they'll survive like Melbourne have and be a consistent premiership threat- if you're there or thereabouts, you'll win one eventually (unless you're st george).

We have to move on. The next Brad Clyde's out there somewhere, lets find him. We've already got a talented young 5/8 in Kelly. There are other blokes with the presence and confidence Bird had, lets get them, encourage our juniors to play like that. Bird's not joey johns for god's sake, he's a good player who had something a little special about him and had a couple of good seasons. Newcastle recovered and made the 8 this year, let's just get on with it.

Anyway Gando- he's not a 5/8, no matter how many times rep selectors kept picking him there. He's a pure, running, ballplaying, hardhitting lock. How locks should be.

I agree with AB, I also have a theory.....

I cant help thinking, Is it possible that because Bird`s career was cut short with us, we are remembering him bieng a bit better than he was?

When you think of things in heinsight, they are sometimes a lot bigger and better than they were at the time, example-

Rolling stone have a tendancy of reviewing albums ten yrs after they have been released, and they usually get a lot better rating than they did when they first came out.

Wu tang clans 36 chambers got 4 stars when it first came out, however when it was reviewed 10 yrs on they gave it 5...

Snoop dogg`s doggy style was given 4 stars when it first came out, but when it was reviewed 10 yrs on, it also was given 5.

In 1994, in triple j`s hottest 100, killing in the name was voted 6th best song of the year, however, at the beginning of this year, triple j did a countdown of the best songs of all time, and killing in the name was voted in at number 2.... so lets get that straight, killing in the name was the 6th best song of 93, but now it is the second best song of all time?

I know its a bit off the topic but its kinda relevent to how we look at birdy, now we are looking in `what if` and heinsight, is he being seen as better than he actually was?

Haha hitman, I think you're right. Its like your childhood- the movies you saw, the books you read, places you went, the sports you watched have a warm glow to them that makes them better than they probably were.

And if yo can get over not having the tweet-tweet back, given he was the player that got you following league, the rest of us can!

It wasnt easy mate! its just a matter of saying over and over again "rebuild, rebuild!"

What could have been in 08 is a very painful thought, its time for us to let go..
