Interesting, cause lack of preparation or not it doesn't look like we are even trying to implement this structure.
Even in the back end of last season the team had moved away from it so it must be more than just preparation...

He didn't so much reference that game or anything, just that the team was letting Parra come to them too much.

Can you be more specific about what you meant about the Melbourne game? We haven't been playing 'up and in' for two seasons. I tend to think that it was just the same method as used currently, but in that game it was executed superbly.

Also, its worth noting that Sharp is the defensive coach.

Looks like we are still having heaps of trouble in this area, especially the moving up quickly bit.

It's something that I have never been able to work out - how can all of us forum guys see this and yet our team and coaching staff seem to think it's okay to concede 70 metres every set.

It doesn't seem like the opposition is ever having to put clearing kicks in from inside their own 40

At one point, Uate (I think), threw the ball backwards about 15 metres and the Sharks defence didn't move forward, they just stayed in their set line and waited for Newcastle to bring the ball back.

Probably the single thing that irks me the most about this team

We hold a good, set line and move as a pack, for the most part spanning the width of the field (or at least the width of the line of attack), limiting the space on the edges but relying heavily on our big men in the middle to hold tight. Outside our 20 and for most of the match when its an arm wrestle it serves us well. Look at Titans tonight to see that its better to get up slow in a straight line than up quick but staggered - they made Milford look extra special.

Today though we were a big sluggish, even if we moved up we didn't pressure the ball carrier or runners enough consistently. Let them make plenty of meters. We looked tired at the end of the 1st half and not much better at the start of the 2nd. Pitty cause it was an important game especially since Raiders won. We'll be better next weekend.

Also to add I think how we always say we've got this great dominant forward pack is somewhat of a myth because we are always conceding 60-70 metres but generally only making 40 or so.

Your right, it was from a Uate pass back that went to nobody, we didn't actually stay on our line but we moved up very slowly, I remember thinking at the time WTF? We could have pinched 15-20m off them which effectively is two go forward tackles & better field position for us.

Under 10's ****. It's simple, move up in defence to create pressure. Not ****ing rocket science but apparently with the sharks coaching it is.

Yeah its not like they have to rush up as fast as they can just move forward at something faster than a snails pace

Whilst it is seemingly obvious, it definitely isn't that simple IMHO. It is about fitness. Moving up quickly usually sees sides run out of juice at the later stages. ie. How fit are we as a team is probably the real question?

If we aren't fit enough, which is what I suspect, then getting off the line at warp speed should be saved for when we are defending our line. Outside of that, I've got nothing.

We're not looking at warp speed, we'd just like it a little faster than it is now. Gumby says Ev should be defensive coach, but all of us in this thread can see the deficiencies, why can't the coaching staff? It's bloody frustrating!

If they aren't fit then someone should GET THEM BLOODY FIT! That's what the club pay them for.

Wasn't sharpy our defence coach previously, the appointment of a new defensive coach next season may fix this problem.
