I see Williams as more of a middle forward these days, I feel he does his best work there, thats where I’d rather see him. I’m not against using him on the edge if needed but I just feel he helps us more as a middle.
Agree, he's definitely a middle that can play edge if needed
I could see him playing edge this weekend with assumed lune up, rotate in for Talakai for middle 30-40. But overall I definitely see him as a middle.

Colquhoun is a middle forward.

Williams, Rudolf and Talakai were all predominantly edge players in Cup. Any of those 3 can handle playing there, but none of them have the motor to play 80.
Hey Burgess - since Colquhoun is more a middle - who would be next in line as an edge ?

Might be Toby as you suggested ?

how much does Jack Martin weigh? could he fill in there?

might see Tracey or Cam McG slotted into second row if we cop an injury

I was waiting for Burgess to answer but since you've already jumped in I will too

Now McIness is back on board we have good middle stocks currently, we can afford Talakai, Williams, Rudolf (my guess is that order) to do some edge work if necessary.

If you exhausted through them or needed them for middle then Reuben Rennie got a run in trials, or Colquhoun/Hazelton/Martin are middle options that are all probably ahead of Rennie, so maybe one of them comes into middle to free up the Talakai, Williams or Rudolf... or McInnes could probably do it also if you were that desperate.

Alternately you have the option of playing a back there if needed but it can be a big jump up in workload vs what they'd be used to and I don't think any of them are very attractive options.
Ikuvalu (184, 100kg), Jensen (190, 102kg), are certainly both big enough. Hiroti (187, 95kg) would probably go about as well as you could expect from your 6th choice centre/winger playing second row. I'd probably name Tolman at second row ahead of these guys tbh

I considered Martin also but don't know him well enough, as a prop he may not have the mobility to play there.

Jack Martin doesn't look that big in the profile pics but can't find stats on his weight / height ect. I know he is listed as a prop, I don't know much about his history of positions either.

Tolman is a good defender but slow so not keen on second row where he needs to mark up and get his positioning spot on. He could handle the fatigue with his big motor better than most though. Rudolf is an improved player this year but I dunno if he defense is up to second row yet. Would like him in attack though.

Tracey is small but he's seriously tough and durable and would give it everything in attack and defense. he wouldn't get lazy. he is tackling some big bodies in the centres as it is. Maybe Ikuvalu, seems a strong lad.

Cam McG makes most sense to me and we have plenty of options to cover lock. He is a utility forward, experience, works hard ect but might be a tad lacking in game fitness but he trains hard so I doubt it's that big a deal and his body should be fresh after so much time off. Im pretty sure he had filled in some second row while at the Drags

Well the team list announcement is still around 3 and a half hours away but I'll take a stab at this week's team.

Only problem is I can't split a five man bench.

And like most times, I can't shake the feeling I've left someone out.

Sounds likely Chad, though personally I like Talakei coming from the bench
Same here but who do you put in the run on side at backrow on that bench. Williams maybe but would be his first game back, I doubt Fitz throws him into the starting line up first up.

I'd say that's it, assuming Ronnie unavailable. Hunt drops off based on less mins round 1 and no game round 2

Same but have to work with who we have available and I don't think we have a better option available

We're going to need a lot more from McInnes this week with that bench.
Sounds like we should get it, just watched post match press and Fitz said they ended up playing Cam longer than they intended too and he (Cam) was very happy with how he got through it

Both Tolman and Fifita have been good this year, but I hope Williams gets a chance to stake his claim soon.

Not a fan of our bench at all
Would have preffered
Hunt, Williams, McInnis and Tolman
Fifita obviously did enough to be preferred to Hunt for round 1 and has done enough to hold him off for now. Although Jets review said Hunt played well. Fifita isn't playing so well that it is his jersey to lose, I think Hunt could potentially play well enough for Jets he forces his way in.
But for now it is Fifitas jersey.

Hunt or Williams vs Trindall is another story. With Talakai starting instead of bench we lose a bit of the versatility him and Tracey give us, probably makes Trindall a bit more attractive.
And it seemed like Fitz may have always wanted to play Trindall off the bench but obviously plan affected by suspension.
