The big guy has re signed for 3 years with us!
Is it bad that I’m not sold on this guy yet ?

I mean these 3 years have to be the best years of his career age wise etc so I’m hoping this genius coach of ours isn’t making the same mistake he’s done with Moylan

They are rarely on the field together other than for 5 minutes here and there, or the games where WIlliams covered second row.

They are probably the two players who spent the least amount of time on the field together playing in the middle.

The others I'd say are pretty close, but Finucane and McInnes will often be on together for 20-25 minutes, so it's more like...

80 mins Toby + Jack
100 mins Cam + Dale
60 mins BHU + 2 of Tom/Royce/Oregon/Jesse

Those minutes go up a bit when they run with a 3 forward bench or if someone gets hurt early in the game.
Would you see Williams being able to take BHU's role?

No, I get it. He'd had a pretty interrupted recent history too. It's just so hard to further what everyone's ceiling is!

This is true, it’s a key position too..

Is he even in the top 20 props going around ?

I think it changes depending on who else is available, and possibly based on the opposition. That game was the first game since round 5 that BHU and Toby both started.
I should say, round one with all players fit, would you see that as his role?

I see Williams as a perfect fit for the role he has been given. ~15 either side of half time going full noise, with the ability to fill-in elsewhere if someone gets hurt, HIA'd or binned. Should be one of the first players picked, but in a bench jersey.

Fitz always wants at least one of the bigger bodies out there for the first 20 against the oppositions' starters (usually two), then from ~25-80 he's more than happy to run 3 smaller blokes for a while if necessary. The only way Williams starts imo is if both Cam and Dale are unavailable.

Same $$ he signed for in his last contract I’ve been told.
Well that would answer me wondering if we splashed some Moylan money at him this season coming to reduce what we are paying for the extension.

But is probably fair as it's not like he's jumped up a significant level since last contract.

I get that Williams is a 'small' forward but I never really felt that way about him watching him play. I think he could handle the opening exchanges, but it's probably more Fitz' preference than Jack's capability.

Definitely Fitz's preference. What you've got to look at is what works best overall. Not just for that one guy. I agree though that Jack could handle Toby's role if it became necessary.

E.g. I reckon Tommy or Jack could start games and handle it if the starters are out, but since you've got a plodder in the lineup (Kaufusi) who is going to play the same way no matter what, put Tommy/Jack on at the time you think they could make the most difference and have Kaufusi play the other role.

A lot of Sharks fans (and probably footy fans in general) get hung up on starter v bench. i.e. "this guy is better than that guy so he should be starting" but that is a massive oversimplification of what the coach actually considers when he puts him team together.

Kaufusi won’t be in the side much next year unless for injuries i reckon. Tommy has jumped in the queue.

At least he has stopped saying that he is basically AC/DC every time he's in front of a camera.
