As someone who lives in Loftus this would be a wet dream.

Honestly, getting to and from Shark Park is a nightmare.
I've been there from Loftus, it's really not that bad. Try getting there from Perth!
Admittedly I don't think any of these suggestions are fixing that issue...
Just have to hope for Sharks away games vs the JetBears

Loftus would be a second best option to Seymour Shaw in my opinion. The fields at the latter are huge and could accomodate grassroots tennis, basketball, netball and more as well as a large stadium, all within pissing distance of Miranda precinct and a train station and a little further to the leagues clubs with main roads in all directions.

New stadium and a re-brand.

We are going to be on the world stage next year and we have a mangled stadium and jersey that's past its prime to show for it.

Keep the colours.
Update the logo.
Update jersey.
Refer to Sharks to just The Sharks to reach a wider audience.
Sell stadium to Government.

I'm not sure about all of that but our logo and wordmark are in dire need of an update.

Maybe the " influential RL Individual " hasn't considered who is on the Board of our club & how they operate .
He may not know the entire board. He knows Steve and Dino well enough though.

Who is the big time board member? How do they operate and how does their skillset protect the club from the issues it currently and soon will face?

That retro jersey we used this year was 🔥🔥🔥

I’m all in for the rebrand, we have the best colours and one of the best animals/mascots to be one of the top selling merch clubs but it’s like we rather the bland basic Lowes style

You obviously don't live in an apartment block around North side of Miranda CBD.

Disagree hard on all of this almost. We're not an AFL club, this is the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks for a reason. It's our local footy team. The only thing I'd be happy rebranding that to is the Sutherland Shire Sharks. Our away jersey is average but the home jersey is one of the best-looking in the league. Same for our logo, we don't need to americanize it like the Sea Eagles did with theirs and turn it into some generic corporate marketing shlock.

Selling the stadium to the govt might be worth it if they don't **** with the club any and pay for the upgrades/a new stadium in the shire, but even then I'd be leery giving away the keys to an outside group.

I think the problem is that the tribalism thing isn’t working neither is it selling..

It’s a business/brand at the end of the day and the best biggest clubs operate business first

That's kind of the issue if we are always going to be referred to as "Cronulla-Sutherland", especially if we are wanting to get onto a wide international audience.

Obviously the plan is for RL to expand the audience internationally. Rather a recognisable name/logo/colours with The Sharks as the brand. Cronulla-Sutherland won't be recognisable for international audiences.

Regarding selling the stadium to the government allows for more investment from them as they need to show that it was worth the purchase.

Coming from a marketing/brand background we are sitting on a goldmine on what we could do.

Well, aside from all the tribalism pushing clubs like the panthers, dogs and probably the broncos even?

Every time is tribalistic compared to what's being said here aside from the dolphins. Drop the team's location from the name? Update the logo to a more modern audience? It doesn't even look outdated these days.

Honestly the sharks as a team aren't gonna suddenly appeal to everyone on the world stage. Focusing on the shire and shire people just makes sense. We're not gonna reach someone in south sydney or blacktown and convince them that Cronulla is the 'people's team' or whatever.

The international bit is 30 years away if it's even viable. Every team in the league has their location in the name*, you don't hear about the panthers wanting to drop penrith so yanks can follow along more closely.

*dolphins excepted but they got forced to dropped Redcliffe by the QRL and people are still meme'ing on them for it.

Panthers and Dogs are probably the heaviest brand pushing clubs outside of Rabbits and have recently undergone new branding and become more corporate heavy because they probably realised they needed to change/update

100% you still keep the tribalism but definitely feels like we can improve the other side of it heaps.. the leagues club will help no doubt but outside of that it feels like we don’t really have a buy in or an identity

The only person that has ever thought Rugby League could conquer the word was John Ribot. We're a niche sport.

So we don't try?

Larger fanbase = more money coming in, through merch, membership, sponsorship etc.

The younger generations don't care for tribalism, we are going to be dealing with a newer audience that needs a much different approach. Its evident in the players aswell.

Tribalism means nothing and nostalgia means nothing to this new generation. Its a transactional, digital and flashy audience, where you need to market excitement, youth, trends to capture them.

Honestly we had it in the late 90s, we really did, Saturday nights at Shark park with those Pepsi jerseys and such an exciting team to watch.

I dunno. I think when kids are younger they tend to follow players rather than clubs but I reckon that all changes once they get to a certain age.

The Sharks appealed to me because of the style of club we were and the players we had with Peachey, Preston Campbell, Kimmorley etc

Think about how many extra fans we picked up with Barba, Lewis, Valentine etc and how we were strong as a club/brand with an identity in those years .. it helps

The shire thing is cool but always need to think big
