Brought one if those stiff shaft (no comment required) drivers. Hitting the ball a lot straighter now and probably getting a extra 50 meters as well

they are worth $400 but the main reason why it's such a huge increase of distance is because I'm hitting the ball straight and not slicing it
True.

I've got a golf membership for the first time so going to try and at least play once a fortnight.

I want to try and get to the stage that I'm not completely useless at golf.

What brand?

Nothing better in golf than hitting a nice straight drive for mine. Only problem is I always stuff up the next shot!

I've still never done that with a driver. It's a good feeling with the 3 wood though.

HOYLAKE: Rory McIlroy can do his father proud, and make him much richer, on Sunday by winning the British Open at Hoylake.

For 10 years ago, 25-year-old McIlroy's dad Gerry and three friends each placed a £100 ($A180) bet at odds of 500/1 that his son would become Open champion before he turned 26.

The end result of that would be an overall jackpot of £200,000 ($A365,000), for the quartet, while McIlroy would pocket a cool £1 million ($A1.83 million) for winning the third major of his young career.

My Dad backed me to play for the Sharks and be a part of the first premiership. Think the odds were 100,000,000,000,000,000,000/1.

Still haven't had a game since I posted this.

I've got back in to golf now that I live out in the middle of no where and there isn't much to do.

Still crap though! I'm rocks and diamonds. For example the other day got a birdie on a par 5 after a decent drive but a very good 7 iron shot for a two putt. Next hole took me 7 on a par 3!

Frustrating game, but I'm hooked again Haha.

Did you take a post out in the bush? Does it work the same way as NSW up there? Work out in the bush for a couple of years then you get preference when applying for jobs back in the city?

I'm actually in a pretty good spot. It's about an hour outside Ipswich and Toowoomba. So it's country, there is nothing out here. But it could be much worse. I can live on the outskirts of Ipswich, where it isn't too bad. Though at the moment I'm living about 20 minutes from work. So it's pretty boring out here, but is a golf course 5 minutes down the road

Yeah it is a good game. Even when playing like crap it's peaceful and relaxing as long as the course isn't crowded. I don't play on weekends anymore, too frustrating.
