I think a lot of people will look at Shaun's time here as a failure, but he carried us last year.

Hopefully we'll remember him as someone who kept us competitive as we transitioned from one premiership team to another.

Failure might be a bit harsh but it hasn't been a success.

He's never going to lead a team to a premiership I suppose, you get what you get with him.

Yeah might take me a bit of time to process how I look back at SJ's career with us but ultimately I think it will be that of disappointment. Perhaps my expectations when we signed him were too high. Losing Flanno a few months later didn't help I'm sure.

Really won't be surprised if they release him or let him recover outside the bubble and go back to Sydney. Recovering for 2 weeks in Sydney with the rehab squad and if looking like he might be closer to that 4 week recovery he can isolate and come re join the bubble.

Might also go the RTS route and just call it.

I thought that but he probably has approx 120-150k left on his contract he won't want to limp away from

RTS would have been the same

Yeah, even more maybe, just because he has done it doesn't mean SJ will though. He might, he might not.

Not sure what RTS is going to in terms of $ but SJ is looking at a big cut so he may be less willing to lose out on $ this year than RTS if he is still expecting pretty good money.

Would have been interesting if Flanno would have been coach. We will never know.

Just too many injuries- been great whenever he’s strung a few games together.

i'd say he will return to NZ and his contract is expired. I dont expect we will pay him for the remainder of the year

We would have to pay him out. He still gets paid whilst injured.
We can’t just say “see ya later”.
Not that I don’t think he believes this is his best outcome thou!

He could just say see ya later though, if he didn't want the money.
If this had been confirmed a week earlier he may have been happy to leave on a negotiated payout (say half what he is owed) and gives us a little buying power for mid season roster.

If we're going to keep paying him the club might want him to stick around to mentor Trindall but if he wants to go back to Syd/NZ to rehab then we shouldn't be paying him.

Frankly I'm kinda glad the whole SJ experiment is over. Completely under delivered in his 3 years imo.
