To be fair he was somewhat carrying us for a lot of last year before that injury. I just cant help but wonder if everyone would still feel the same if he didn’t get the season ending injury last year, instead finish the year strong like what he was heading to before the injury and took that momentum into this season.

Ah well.

I felt the same prior to the Achilles injury. I don’t believe he carried the team last year. I think people (mostly commentators) just get obsessed with try-assist stats, and when one bloke is doing 100% of the kicking he is going to kick for a few tries.

Was always good for getting repeat sets during his time at Cronulla, but so was Jeff Robson - and at least Robbo could tackle.

Mate, that is a terrible comparison.

Mate, that is a terrible comparison.

Why?

2 players who were great at forcing repeat sets, but otherwise didn’t bring much. One was a noted defender and one was a noted turnstile. One was on close to minimum wage and the other got paid $2.5m during his time. The team got better results with the cheaper guy.

The Sharks were better before SJ arrived, and for the most part were a better team when he was out of the 13 unless they were playing the Titans or the Warriors. He was a completely unnecessary signing at a time when the club had invested time and money into developing Moylan as a 6. SJ was a waste of money and a waste of time. I’m glad the team has come to their senses and moved on.

Can we bring him back? **** he would be good with Hynes
He'd go back to not giving a ****. That was the most excited he has been in years. Was delight to put one over us for... throwing him a lifeline when NZ dumped him on his arse.

Is playing best he has in years.

Even thanks John Morris for training him to make the game winning kick...

So what was the issue at the end of his contract with us? Did he have a sook and not want to play?

arguably the best 7 in the comp now not named nicho hynes

why fitz didnt think it would be good to keep him and dump moylan is another strange decision
Because he wasn't playing like that for us and wanted far more money that Moylan
He clearly had a chip on his shoulder about playing for a club outside of NZ given his attitude about going back - as if we forced him out of contract early (he quit because they didn't want to extend him) rather than gave him a high paying lifeline at a club the fans were excited to have him.

Warriors let CNK out of contract early to chase an opportunity and despite ending up in Cup he cried when he played his last game for Raiders.
Warriors told SJ he wasn't being kept and he quit on them and then we gave him an opportunity and he did just well enough to get another offer from them and is laughing in our faces about it. He's a knob, explains the pissy attitude that had him fall out of our plans.
Playing really really well though now.

he was though, he was our best player in 2019 and 2020 and was playing well for us in 2021 before he got injured

he also had a contract agreed and then reneged by the board, i am sure that would leave anyone with a foul taste in their mouth

I think it was 2020, he would of got the Dally M - or gone pretty close, if he didn’t get injured
