No offence to the Jets but I want our own reserve grade team and want it to be played before first grade.

The Jets or Bears aren't my concern.

Think the Jets and Bears should keep their home games at respective venues to keep their loyal followers happy. In those two instances the draw at Sharks home games should have SG Ball bumped up, JF the Curtain Raiser, and Easts the same.

I’m the opposite. I like that the Jets are our feeder team. Saves us money and is good for the Jets.. plus a day at Henson is great fun.

I’m happy to watch the Flegg game beforehand.

There’s no way the Jets will want to play away from Henson and I doubt we’re in a position to start our own team any time soon.

While the majority of fans are backing the change, has V’landys forgotten about the supporters of clubs like the Newtown Jets and North Sydney Bears?

The Jets are affiliated with the Sharks, while the Bears are the feeder team for the Roosters. Their games will be moved to Netstrata Jubilee Stadium and the SCG... But both the Jets and Bears — as foundation clubs — have a loyal fanbase that make a day of attending games at Henson Park and North Sydney Oval.

Won't happen then

That is actually a perfectly good option.
Although does that mean no game before Roosters matches if they are expected to field a junior team?

To even think about the Jets moving any games away from Henson it needs to better financially, and still even then I doubt they'd move a few novelty games here and there.

I go to a lot of Jets games, I'm a Jets member and a lot of the fans have no huge interest in the Sharks. A lot are either old school original Jets fans, go for the Roosters from their feed club days or just don't follow NRL much at all and like following a local team. Sure they cheer them on when they're winning etc but i doubt we'd be getting them to a first grade game where you need to pay more for a ticket.

I could see the PR for the NRL trying to move the Jets away from Henson not being that great either.

It's actually not that hard.

NSW Cup draw is usually 24 rounds. They have an odd number of teams so there will need to be byes every week, so let's say everyone plays 20 games.

Just have the Jets, Mounties and Bears play (for example) 8 home games, 8 away games, and 4 at a neutral venue. Away games and neutral games are played as NRL curtain raisers. Everyone else plays 10 home, 10 away.

Then align the NSW Cup draw with the NRL draw to have the home teams in the NSW Cup the ones with NRL teams playing on Saturday/Sunday.

This makes > 90% of NSW Cup games available to be played as curtain-raisers.

That’s what I’ve always wanted. Don’t get me wrong though I’ve loved our association with the Jets despite its ups and downs, considering my Pop was a big Jets fan and he’s enjoyed seeing the blue bags run around again and winning comps, but I miss having our own reserves playing before first grade, and I think the club needs more control over its reserve grade team as in coaching, team selections, style of play etc.

And according to the ground announcer they regularly cram about thirty five thousand people into Henson. Hard to compete with that.

It would be interesting to know how much it saves us.

Sorry mate , I'm a little confused .
If the Sharks play say 10 games at Jubilee would the Jets play any games prior to main game there in your model ?
Just asking because I don't believe they would want any of their NSW Cup home games away from Henson .

But then you disadvantage those 3 sides who only get 8 homes games when the other teams get 10.
I know it doesn’t sound like much but could be the difference in the end especially if you have a good/ great home record but are forced to take 2 games away.

This is already happening. In both 2017 and 2019 the Jets played a home game at Shark Park

I’m sure the Jets - who are struggling financially - would happily move a second home game if the NRL/ARL provide a suitable financial incentive.

It’s actually 4 teams . I missed Blacktown.

3 - They’d play 2 home games there, plus the Dragons away game.

I also totally agree with Tiger’s comments about feeder/Jets fans. I go to plenty of Q Cup games. It’s just as much about the experience than the footy itself. $10 entry, parking isn’t an issue, beers are $5, kids can go on the field etc. I would not go to a Titans or Broncos game just to see the Q Cup. I’d just go to a different Q Cup game.

Yep, alot of locals who go to the games, then go to one of the local pubs or breweries after. And you can literally park on the hill to watch the game, and you can bring your dog!

It's a very different experience to being a curtain raiser for an NRL game. In a good way too.

As mentioned if it was worth their while they'd probably move a few games here or there to Shark Park. They rely on money from games so COVID made things very difficult for them.

Speaking of feeder clubs... Do the dragons have to play as openers for our games now?

You’d have to think so. We’ve taken their ground, their players. May as well just make it official

Duwayne Mariner was pegged as someone to watch this year in one of those pre season articles. Can't say I know anything about him. We're pretty stacked in the forwards as it so not sure how many games he'll get.

Agreed. The team who played the Sharks trial on the weekend is probably pretty close to the Jets best 17. Can’t see him forcing his way in ahead of any of those guys.

Players can improve though - especially middle forwards. Jolliffe played plenty of 3rd grade.
