Let's talk some harsh realities right here and stop pointing the finger at the refs.

We had zero line speed, Our kicking game was atrocious, we kept sliding in attack resulting in our backs been cramped on the sidelines. We gave them easy metres and let them charge up the field way to easily, gal was far to involved and having barba sitting on the bench when we needed spark wad a huge mistake. We had plenty of chances in their 20 and even had a few repeat sets but never looked dangerous. Too many one up hit ups and sliding when we did spread it. Was the Broncos game all over again

Those are the reasons why we lost. Not the refs. If we are serious about the comp we should be able to defend a few sets in a row. They game down our end twice in the first 20 minutes and scored 2 soft tries. Refs are going to blow penalties and if the oppositions gets a penalty and they come down the field for the first time and score a very soft try then that is far more concerning to me then blaming the ref because he blew a penalty.

Were the refs ****. Of course. Should we have received more penalties. Of course but tonight's performance as a team was absolutely shocking. Blaming the refs is just shifting the blame from a team that played like a bottom 4 team tonight.

Back to the drawing board and move onto next week. It's vital we bounce back and bounce back well

Good post mate. Someone talking some sense.

Cool. It's not unreasonable to expect some decent reffing though. Tonight was terrible from the officials and it shouldn't be forgotten because the End score was a blow out.

The need to do better, just like us.

We lacked go forward tonight and our kicking game was again very ordinary. Really missed Fifita, Taga and a No 7

The kicking game let us down badly again tonight and agree the go forward and line speed was nonexistent at times tonight wake up call..

We were too small tonight, their defence too good, they routinely shut down our pet plays and when we needed something different, had nothing. When taga was outed,we were always going to struggle. As long,as we learn from this 4 wks out,im not too fussed. The end score however, very dissapointing.

Good post, I'll counter the refereeing point to the way i can see it affecting the game.

Our players are getting held down from the very first set, they have their defence set in a straight line every single tackle not too mention they were offside all night. In return we hold them down for nowhere near as long and bang its a penalty. Suddenly and imo unfairly we are automatically more fatigued and they score a couple of tries.

This in turn sees us having to play catch up football whilst Melbourne are still getting away with murder in the ruck. Come second half we are playing not just catch up footy but frustrated catch up footy which also affects the defensive patterns as players are more worried about what they're going to do when they get the ball back and their minds not on the job defensively 100%.

It's a flow on affect from atrocious refereeing which makes a bad performance terrible.

Or I'm just talking complete bollocks haha.

Agree with this.

Which is why we won't make week 2 of the semis.

Not being a wrist slitter - just a realist. Flanno just can't see the blindingly obvious. If we are going to continue to play that grinding style then a good kicking game gets you repeat sets and eventually tries.

Prior was charging up in defence last week and it was awesome - how come players didn't do this tonight?

And for me the Barba bubble has burst. He was used wrong all year and now he's a lame duck.

Well, I'll go on a different tack, yes I picked us to win in my tipping comps but this loss hasn't killed me like it normally has in the past.

I don't know if it's a case of me not buying into the hype that we can be a genuine challenger or not, maybe I have seen that much disappointment being a sharks fan that I am starting to become immune to losses hurting.

Well that sucked - bitterly disappointed with the result
Bought a 4L tub of ice cream from IGA to console myself with

Unfortunately we are just still not at the level to be able to get over the top of the slick structures of Melbourne and Manly teams

good counter argument mate

I see where you are coming from but that doesn't account for all the glaring problems I was talking about. While I agree with you that it doesn't help with fatigue, the problems with our line speed was happening from the get go. We looked flat from the start of the game imo.

We should be able to perform better under fatigue as well because it wasn't like we had to defend a heap of sets on our line for them to score. The frustrating thing for me was the fact when they got down our end they went through untouched.

Yeah the intensity was missing from last weeks game for sure. Let's just hope this was the "game we had to lose"

Geez this game was always going to be tough! I think it will do us good in building again and getting ready for the last 3 even if we drop 2 of them I wouldn't be ringing alarm bells! There is a lot of good in this team and a lot more to come back into it. Just wasn't our night

going into the semis being 1 and 3 is not ideal. We need to win our last three and should win our next 2 comfortably

I hope Robson breaks his leg in the shower. Seriously he is rubbish of the highest order

Please don't post here ever again .
You might be passionate and disappointed .
But wishing ill of any player is just NOT on .
Wishing ill on a Sharks player is unforgivable .BYE .
Comp is over for us if he goes down with no replacement half available .
I STILL have faith we can give this comp a shake and whether you like it ir not we need Robbo .
So clam up .

He is rubbish. Sorry I'm not confirming to your standards . Actually **** you'. I'm not personally attacking anyone on this forum. I can vent if I choose. It's just blowing off steam anyway.

Felt strangely flat all night. Not much atmosphere and no game beforehand all felt a bit weird. Even when I got to my seat and found Littleshark not there (he's usually there very early) something didn't feel quite right. Sat down next to Ev while he was trying to get Skeksis' attention and then watched the game.

The things that annoyed me were:

1. The bloody ground announcer
2. The old bat behind me who never shuts up and calls every pass forward and doesn't realise you get 7 tackles from a 20 metre re-start.
3. Cameron Smith who didn't keep his mouth shut all night and looked so nonchalant kicking goals from the sideline.
4. Paul Gallen trying to do everything himself.
5. Having to park miles away from the ground and then having to trudge back to the car after a 28 point drubbing

Yes, some of the refereeing was poor but we were so off tonight. I actually thought Toops was our best, he seemed to be constantly breaking the line and looking to offload. Val always looked dangerous and I love how he backed himself at one point in the second half with a little grubbed that got us a repeat set. I thought Flash could hold his head up too.

Birdy was really targeted tonight and the a Storm didn't miss him. Not one of his best games. But I think people expect too much from him. He's just a kid playing out of position in the toughest comp in the world. He's doing OK.

Let's hope this loss gives us the big kick up the pants we need. This may have come at the right time. If someone had told me earlier that we'd win 8 out of 10 games at one point, I'd have been happy with that.
