I expected that sort of scoreline, I did say Broncos by 4 in my preview and I wasn't far off.

For a side without Barba, Ennis, Holmes and us fielding a rookie number 9, I didn't think we did too bad. A lot of combinations need to be worked on but there's time yet.

Even though the Broncs scored four tries, I thought our online defence was pretty good. Milford's try being the exception, that was tired poor defence.

I thought Ricky was solid and kept Roberts very quiet, and I was super impressed with Brailey. Thought he was going to play the full 80 minutes at one stage.

Need Val back badly. It'll be interesting to see how Flanno sorts it out. Bird and Ricky will stay put, Val at the back, Feki on the wing should be the go. Just one wing spot up for grabs, I'm not endeared with Lee or Beale at all though.

Great to see the game day thread still has the usual wrist slitters writing us off 25 mins into the game. Makes me laugh so much. And it's the same guys all the time. Keep it up boys.

I thought that the pessimism was reasonably muted in today's thread but even if it wasn't, there's nothing wrong with riding a wave of emotion with a few key strokes, better than punching a hole in the wall (unless you're doing a major refurbishment and then it could save you some dollars outsourcing for demolition)

Thought the boys were great coming back from 14 points Down. And if it wasn't for a flukish offside penalty to give the Bronx possession after a dominant defensive effort the end result may have been different.

Yes and yes, however, the reason they got the 14 point lead is the worry.

No wrist-slitting here but FMD we've got a long way to go if we're to be taken seriously.

Pretty standard Round 1 game i thought.

The team that has the better discipline and handling usually wins and we showed that, lacked in both areas and it cost us the game.

I don't think there is much to worry about, throw in Holmes and Seggy - fix up the issues with the wingers and i can't see us missing the 8 this year.

Round 1 of a bloody long season. Essentially we're working in 3 new players to our spine (Brailey, Nu and Beale) as well as replacing our strike right winger with a guy who has been there a fortnight. I'm not too worried.

Thought Brailey showed great signs.

Those moaning about not kicking to Edrick well he's probably had only a handful of sessions with the side. If we're still kick-shy to him come round 6-8 then have a sook. Combinations take time.

A couple of thoughts:

First half was infuriating. 65% completion rate is unacceptable. Not buying 'first game of the year' excuse, if I remember correctly Brisbane's was over 80% in the first half, if they can do it, we can too.

Second half was better, except for the first 5-10 minutes. We slowly got back into the game and I think we would of run them down if it wasn't for one dumbarse mistake. Milford should never have scored there and it really **** me that the game was on the line and they pulled out soft defence like that. That was ****house, furious with that one. Once Milford scored the game pretty much died.

Brailey debut was very impressive. He defended extremely well, they ran at him all night but he was up for the challenge each and every time. His service was good and we even got to see a bit of his running game, setting up a try. Couldn't of asked for much more.

Apart from the penalty when he came on, I haven't really got any complaints about Brown for the short time he was on the field.

Lee had a mixed bag on debut, some good hard runs the rare times he was actually given the ball, but a pretty bad drop ball and a bad read in defence led to a try. Work in progress.

So to sum, while I'm very disappointed about the loss, I saw enough there to be hopeful for the season. We were bad, but we weren't THAT bad so to speak.

It was definitely a decent quality for a round 1 game, both teams looked a lot better than the WCC. Let's see what sort of ****e Canberra etc put forward this week.

My only concern is that the errors and silly penalties exist, i blamed the conditions for that with the wcc, no excuse last night. Brisbane were beatable last night

I hate Darius Boyd with a passion but his execution of sweep plays is best in the comp. Compared to ours last night there was a ridiculous difference. (please note I realise Beale wont be regular FB). The 4th and 5th tackle penalties cruelled us as did that 10-15 minutes prior to half with JB and Fif dropping pills early in count. Anyway we are premiers and we lost two from first three last year. Bring on Raiders

Sorry mate, didn't realise it took time for halves to figure out how to kick to an 8 foot winger. Rugby League must be a more complicated game than I thought.

It wasn't a good game to watch at all. The things I noticed:

1. we gave our kicker no protection at all on the last and thus we kicked horribly all night long giving the Broncos great field position to start their 6. And yet we didn't put any pressure at all on the Broncos for their kick and they were getting good kicks away all night. It's not rocket science.
2. We lacked so much speed out wide, it was like we were running in slow motion. Leutele nearly got caught out a hand full of times. Beale is too slow for a fullback, he showed zero urgency to get to the ball when Roberts scored, that was a game changing try. Barba or Holmes would have gotten there in time.
3. Brailey looked great, defended well, quick scoot out of hooker really impressed me. He has some speed and some regression in defense. His passing is top notch. I know Seggy would still be better but not at the price tag he comes at when we have Brailey there and not far off ready to play full time NRL.
4. Tagatese was disappointing, he had zero impact off the bench. He needs to ship up or ship out. Let's give Williams a shot.
5. Heighno didn't impress, surely Capewell is a much much much better option here. He is half the age and can cover nearly every position on the field.
6. Brisbane though about 14 forward passes, if I can see than so can the ref.
7.Nu off the bench had no impact but I still think we need him there. He can cover hooker or the halves if need be.
8. Usual suspects were tough (Gal, Lewis, Fifita, Graham)
9. Chad needs to take on the line more, he did it once and setup a try.
