both brailey and hynes look for someone else to take the hole they have created. they need to pin the ears back and ball paly once through the line not before it.
the intercept pass to to'o is a great example, nocho had his inside guy beat but weant for the pass instead of running

I agree with this with Brailey but less so with Hynes, Nicho is 3rd in the league for offloads, which is crazy for a half, only back in the top 5.

His ability to break through and draw an offload is his biggest strength, the rest of the team *cough* Kennedy *cough* need to get to him in support more when he pokes through the line.

They both have 4 line breaks for the season. Im not talking about offloads. Im talking about running through the line

Made some good tackles, did some good things with the ball and off the boot. I like that he is willing to run and probe for holes in the defense and he found 1 or 2 getting his nose through. Doesn't go into his shell.

yea mixed bag, it wasn't all great but still the good kind of mixed bag with plenty of upside and positive play

Is still key for us

The controlling aspects aren't that easy when you are defending in your own end and the opposition aint just gunna let you roll in the ball for repeat sets on every last tackle ect. He was having to kick to corners from way down field, hard to get the angle right every time.

The communication and getting players where he wants them will come with time

You can have a 'controlling' half but that doesn't mean they are always going to execute every play or bring you success either. Reynolds, Chad ect also have games where they can struggle individually or in terms of their direction of the team.

Our hooker didn't offer much with the ball and Kennedy isn't really a play maker or shot caller

Hynes isn't over rated, no one said he was gunna put on the 7 jersey and be elite every week from his first season in that role - he off all people well tell you he is learning as he goes and is committed to improvement and development

We are coming 3rd and the bloke has to do 90% of our kicking - don't do that with an erratic running all about off the cuff fruit loop (like some would make him out) in the 7

As Sharks fans we will be the harshest critics as it means more to us emotionally (financially to an extent in some regards) and tbf we do watch the games week in week out closer than alot of other people but regardless many others have given Nicho big wraps on his season

Has shown he can control a game when given a platform but still it's not the be all and end all of being a halfback or play maker and he is outpeforming most 7's in the comp (most with far more experience)

He isn’t going to be a world class 7 in one season, if he was I’d be concerned.
It took Cleary a few years to get going. Give him Some time
I also think people seem to think as a 7 he needs to be Cleary, Reynolds, Cronk etc
When if I was going to compare his style to a high profile half he's more like Thurston, or currently playing, probably Hughes. They go alright too.
Like Thurston I think he'd also play very similar at 6 or 7

I think we play Hynes at 6 or 7 to suit our strengths, not move him to 6 or 1 to try and cover a perceived weakness by bringing an (arguably) worse player into the team because of the style of football that guy plays.

Had a couple of dodgier games but so has probably everyone in our team, most with more games under their belt than our rookie halfback.

Obviously he's still developing and will likely never be at the level of a few of those names I've mentioned but Hynes is doing a fine job of 7 IMO

Won't complain if he can tap into Thursto's goal kicking a bit more though....

Thats a pretty good take. Obviously he's no JT but like JT isn't what you'd call a "traditional" halfback. It really doesn't matter whether its 6 or 7 on his back he'll do the same. Like with JT & QLD I'd happily put Nicho in 6 to accommodate a Cronk alongside though.
