Read somewhere last night that a league is considering a team in the south. So if we do get him imagine we share our field with our own a league team? We would go from almost out of the comp to secure forever.he is a CEO that could start an a league team

Didn't we already have an A League team playing from Shark Park a few years back?

I remember Sydney Olympic turning into the Olympic Sharks and playing at Shark Park for a couple of seasons in the old NSL. I think they won a championship there too. I don't remember any A-League games there though.

Probably be able to get slightly higher rent for the shops if there were crowds going to games in the offseason.

The south a-league team would most likely represent both the Shire and St.George area. If a-league want to do that they will end up like the NRL, too many teams in Sydney. Sydney FC should be representing the east, north and south. That's why I believe they wont do it, that article just smells like rothsloth picking at anything.

Sharks would benefit greatly in terms of revenue if they play out of shark park.

Completely agree. The team is the West made sense because of the population numbers out there. Sydney FC should be representing the rest. A third team in one of those regions simply wouldn't get enough interest IMO.

It would suck also cause I couldnt choose who to support either, sydney fc supporter since the beginning.

Im glad soccer here is really picking up, connects Australia more with the world to be honest. As much I am a league fan, the NRL is just a shamble of monkeys throwing their **** at each other. Lets not even talk about international league, pwoah....boring.

Yeah. I wouldn't switch either. If I didn't switch when the Wanderers came in (I live in WS) then I'll never switch. One of the worst crimes in my opinion. ;)

Just can't stand Wanderers, after that time when they were throwing glass at the Sydney supporters and crap lol but hey rivalry is great for this sport in this country.

Lyall Gorman if he is our CEO, then by all means he will be our best signing for next year. I hope I dont have to eat my own words but it will be a very positive step for us as a club.

Found this info:

There was great enthusiasm for the world game in the Sutherland Shire with over 13,000 registered junior soccer players involved in the game.
Olympic played out of Toyota Park which is also the home ground of the Cronulla Sharks Rugby League team. The move had also involved a change of name from Sydney Olympic to 'Olympic Sharks' with the traditional blue and white colours of the Club still in place.

The move proved successful in its first year as a combination of on and off field successes led to Olympic capturing its second championship in 12 years when they defeated Perth Glory at Subiaco Oval in front of 42,000 fans. Ante Milicic's goal in the 47th minute was enough to earn Olympic the title, Champions of Australia.

In its second year at Toyota Park, despite dwindling attendances across the NSL as a whole, the Olympic Sharks managed to snare its first ever Minor Premiership by finishing on top of the NSL ladder, and made its second consecutive Grand Final appearance against Perth Glory. But fortune favoured the westerners who had a strong finals campaign. Glory defeated the Olympic Sharks 2-0 to capture their first ever Championship.

Despite the on field successes, the move to the Sutherland Shire was short lived. The poor attendances took its toll on the venture. For season 2003/2004 the club chose to revert to the widely preferred name of Sydney Olympic and moving to OKI Jubilee Stadium at Kogarah.
Following the demise of the NSL Sydney Olympic participated in the NSW Premier League in 2004/2005 and just missed out on the end-of-season final series.

In 2006 Sydney Olympic returned to Belmore Sports Ground and also forged a strong relationship with the Eastern Suburbs Soccer Football Association. However the club again failed to make the playoffs.

Me being Greek, my dad and I always went to the Sydney Olympic games. Very good atmosphere always.

When olympic moved to the shire it was my dream come to, both my fav league and soccer teams played on the same field. Many great memories at Shark Park.

A St-George/Cronulla based soccer team is interesting, I guess they'd think about introducing it if they thought the Shire residents weren't really that much being fans of the Sydney FC. I doubt it will happen, but if it did and they could draw a crowd, plenty of benefits to having Shark Park used during the Rugby League off-season considering we own the place. I wouldn't be too worried about there being much downsides either, it's not like fans would stop supporting the Sharks or that rugby league juniors would start playing soccer.

I'd love for Remondis to be used 12 months a year, but the A League would be down right brain dead if they think they can introduce a 3rd Sydney team so soon.

Wollongong, that could possibly work.

Wouldn't worry about expansion for at least another 3 seasons yet. Consolidate what they've got.

Any more news on gorman coming here ?

As a league fan I'm not super keen on giving a leg up to soccer. With the way the Wanderers have taken off in the West I wouldn't like to see similar success in the South. As it is AFL has made noticeable inroads in Sydney. These days I regularly see kids out kicking an AFL ball when I walk my dog which was unheard of back in my day.

I don't see what league can do to stop the growing momentum of either though. I would like to see league stay the number one sport on the Eastern Seaboard.
League and soccer can be complimentary because they're on at different times of the year. Afl is a much bigger threat IMO. I reckon 20/20 and cricket generally have more to fear from soccer as they both compete for summer audiences.

Not complimentary when it comes to participation or sponsorship dollars though.

An A-League side playing and training out of Remondis is probably the only way to get the stadium used year round d and hence attract outside funds for the upgrades it will need over coming years.

On Gorman - Rothfield seems very confident which you think would mean the Board is confident too. But I suppose Gorman might have other ideas.

Well if that is your opinion of the NRL, I'm curious to see how you'd describe FIFA
