How about instead of being an interstate member, just buy 75 dollars worth of good merchandising and stop complaining?

The membership is a donation, nothing more, so be happy giving your money to a cause.

To be fair, the thread is titled 'Ideas for Membership 2013'.

With continued emphasis on membership numbers I think discussion about improving these packages is a good thing. The other thing is, the backpack and cap looked pretty good in the glossy brochure!

Buying membership packages has an element of trust, like buying off the plan. Membership is not a simple donation. As a member I accept that I am not getting complete material value for money and I am purchasing a non material membership that is worth different value to each people.

I personally don't think any of the critiques in this thread are out of line.

I question though, what does being a member of the club mean to these people?

I took my 4 membership packs and put them in the bin, it was just a waste of time and not what I became a member for.

The emphasis of memberships should be purely around season or part season seating. Getting more people through the gates on a more regular basis.

These shark-net memberships are donations. If you feel like your dollar isnt worth the mere satisfaction of donating, then buy merchandise from the club instead - even the 'good' merchandise has a massive mark-up in it, so the club will make the money.

I understand that these smaller memberships are a 'foot in the door' to seated memberships, but I think it devalues those who fork out for the seats. It's crazy to suggest that someone who pays $75 bucks has the same status as those who spend $1000.

Please explain to me how buying a membership has anything to do with trust. You either buy the membership because you want to be a member of the club, or you don't. It's not about exclusive merch, entitlements, or any other material item.

There are only two numbers the club should be worried about, and that the number of TICKETED members, and the TOTAL REVENUE gained. After that, then you can worry about the expenses.

After all, the interstate members aren't going to buy a beer at home games now are they?

Means a lot to me.

I haven't thrown anything out - my sports bag from 2011 is still intact, although I don't use it every day - same with this year's backpack. I'm careful with the zips though when I use either.

I do both, but that's me.

How does it devalue higher memberships? Nobody is suggesting (as far as I can see) that a Net / Interstate membership has the same status as a platinum.

Probably buy more beers at home games over a season than you do.

I'm not actually having a shot at you, but I think you have us interstate members all wrong.

This is my first year with plantium membership, the rest of the years I have had interstate memberships. I do see some value with the interstate. I do love the plantium membership and did find what was in the package very nice! Photo with team, parking and sets which we keep until we don't want anymore ( thought you do have to renew membership for seats , don't have to be plantium) next year I will be renewing my plantium membership and Im hoping they have a photo with the team as well! Gal, lewis, graham, Gordon and wright ! That would be great! But it wont out be the one this year!

The members pack is not a huge reason why I became a member. If it was an optional extra, I may not even worry about it. The simple fact is if we want people to renew memberships they need to feel that they have received value for money. It does not matter what level membership someone has.

Most ideas in here have been great. Not too much could be added to improve these ideas. But the problem I see in here is the ' I just threw my pack out'. That there is just a waste. You are better off saying to someone at the club to keep it. Or give it away to some kid at a game. The better idea is to improve on what you get.

I looked at the different packs this year being interstate. And did decide on what membership to go for because of the contents in those packs.

You question what being a member means to me?

Read my posts in 'memories of Endeavour Field' and 'What Being Black Whit and Blue Mean to You' and that take you a little closer to understanding.

Your post seems to suggest that interstate or, heaven forbid, international members are not worth worrying about because we don't buy beer at the games.

Now Parko, that sort of attitude only serves to alienate what I presume is a fair component of the Sharks membership base.

The 'trust' comes from buying memberships and expecting the advertised goods to be of a certain level of quality. By all accounts Jardz and the club have acknowledged that wasn't there this year and will be rectified.

To think that you simply 'threw away' the goods is disappointing to say the least. When I was home at Easter I bought a huge amount of goods for the students over here, and Gil, without payment, sent heaps of posters and stickers. How about you send the stuff you don't want over to me and I can assure you it will be loved and used by a kid with aspirations. I've heard them kicking a coke bottle around saying that they're Bukuya and Uate and Hayne. You think your membership means more to you than what it would to them, you're kidding yourself...

You keep measuring the worth of your input into the club based on beers consumed at the ground mate. Whatever makes you feel good.

I'll keep doing stuff over here.

...great idea - quality not quantity in the membership packages...

... they could even try to coordinate so that all the platinum interestate members came to the same game during the year and we all got to meet the players... tour the grounds anbd sheds...meet Damian Irvine .. get on the drink and watch the game together.... they could nearly dedicate a round to the interstate members or something like that!

Have it run the same week as the Gals Pals, so members could also bring there kids a long for that.

Also have tick boxes when you sign up for your memership so you can add extras, like training shirt, Hoodies, Tie, etc.

Can't agree with this.

First and foremost the point of a membership is that it's a membership. You officially become a member of a club. Money, merchandise and seating is secondary to that.

Someone may want to be a $75 member so that they can decide what seating they want each game. Maybe for some games they go with their mates and stand on the hill, other games they want seats with the family, and then some games maybe they take some of their clients to casual hospitality seats. Maybe they spend $300 on average every game day. It doesn't matter if they do that or just are a member, being a member means something.

Instead of the packs for the cheapest membership, maybe it would be better to have the option of a home game ticket?

Would be better for the crowd and probably cheaper for the club. The only problem is that it may devalue the other membership packages though.

This right here is why we all should be members. If you are passionate about the club, gimmicks, bags, backpacks, whistles, shouldn't mean anything really? I don't even think about what I'll get with my Membership, all I care for is that I'm supporting the club & becoming apart of it by being a member. Best part of the Membership Package is the Season Ticket that is swiped at every home game. Love it!

Already excited for next season, and this one hasn't even finished.

Agree entirely. Hence you wonder why every Club bothers with all the paraphernalia. But if you're going to do it, then do it well.
