really? im not so sure about that.

they run fantastic bus trips, but the discounted ticket rate is far fetched

Doesnt really help when some clubs (souths, bulldogs) dont want to play ball on bulk pricing, also the abundance of monday night scheduling didnt help with that

Parko most hear what you are saying. And I don't use any of my stuff. I used my orporto voucher though. But imagine if the club just canned all the merch. And said your money is just a donation. Put that membership up against the other 15 clubs in the nrl. Say you have someone looking at parting with their cash. They look at our package which contains nothing. Then looks at other clubs and what they receive in regards to club merch. You think these people are going to see a reward in becoming a member? This doesn't include die hard supporters who are happy to just give club cash. This is aimed at attracting those people who sit on the fence.

We want people to come to the game and if people enjoy it, they will tell their friends and FAMILY! Word of mouth is a big thing and we need to work to our average .

Correct. Create a higher value in the product without compromising on overheads or price.

If I can jump in here. I am a net member and pay my $70 or whatever it is. Its not about how much I pay it's about me being a part of something I believe in. I now live on the Gold Coast, and the islander kids up the road are now shark fans. My apprentices are now shark fans, the old fella acoss the road and the one next to him, continually talk to me about the sharks, (remember, I'm living on the Gold Coast). My kids are sharks fans. So, yeah, my net membership does count, exactly at the same rate as your platinum membership.

The number of members doesnt matter. DI mentioned it at the CSSC launch this year, what matters most is the total revenue we receive. Being a member of the club is the pinnacle. You can just as easily go out and sell supporters packs or jerseys or anything else with a sharks logo across it and make the same sort of money.

I'm all for that, that is truely fantastic, but the concern is those who give over there money, expect something spectacular in return, and have no regard for actually being a member of this great club.

You can't sell supporters packs and jerseys to people who no longer support the club.

While I don't dispute that Irvine (or Jardz from memory) made reference to revenue being higher than previous years and this was great, I don't know if you'd find either agreeing that 'The number of members doesnt matter'.

You know what? I want the 'crappy' merch out there. It's advertising, it's people saying 'I'm a proud sharks supporter' and that's what makes others join. Matty C talks about word of mouth, well saturation is a big form of that.

Fitzy2513 has converted fans into, let's hope, members.

I'd rather 4000-600 backpacks and stickers and lanyards being used at schools and workplaces across the world than 1000 members ties and platinum photos hidden away doing nothing.

Probably don't want to hear 6000 rape whistles being used though ;)

Btw Parko, thanks for the intelligent conversation, something I've missed on here the last few months. It's nice to debate a point without it reverting to asterisks and questions of sexuality.

Also, I played baseball in the Shire for many years in the 90s. Strong Cavalry fan from my time in Canberra. Good to see it still being played.

Exactly sixgil. You need something to attract members to hand over their money. A simple donation to help your club just isn't enough unfortunately. And what do you tell the kids that do enjoy receiving that stuff? "Sorry they don't do that anymore" just wouldn't cut it.

I just think that instead of using gimmicks to attract members, we would take pages out of some of the biggest sporting clubs in the world. I dont see the Marylebone Cricket Club resorting to throwing in backpacks to keep members.

i like this post!

I'm all for that, that is truely fantastic, but the concern is those who give over there money, expect something spectacular in return, and have no regard for actually being a member of this great club.

expect something in return? we have a football team to support.
the question that needs to be asked is not what the club can do for me, rather, what can i do for the club.

we are already on the back foot when membership starts. i have asked what i can and cant say in this post, so it will be sketchy, but a survey was conducted by the nrl via social media and print media and we are the lowest supported team in the country. the next worse is penrith, and they are 3 times better than us.

so the total income that we have, dictates the budget that we get allocated for membership packs. so instead of getting frothy about what your getting, see what you can do to help.

fitzy11223344 and sixgil are helping by getting people excited by us.

we all know sharks fans, how many are members. how many people are members of this website compared to members of the club.
if $70 is too much of a price to pay to no that you will have a team to support in the future, then thats a **** attitude IMO.

i have lived all over NSW and in QLD and every year regardless i have bought a full season ticketed membership, this year will be the only year that i have attended all home games from my membership card.

What on earth would they put in a members only website anyway? You need content to fill it with, and theres really not much more they can do.

A forum where members can interact directly with Sharks staff, players and mermaids would be a good start.

They could post photos and videos on there, and answer peoples questions.

I already gave the example of the 'ask the coach' questions.

Kids are such a tiny percentage of memberships. It's the young working adults that the club needs to get a hold of. Turn the casual fan into passionate supporter.

Do you know what percentage kids make up of all memberships?

I'd agree with this. This demographic has a high disposable income and will probably have kids in the next 5 years anyway. People generally pass their passion down.

That might be true but once you get someone interested at a young age you're likely to 'retain' them for a long time. It's why the Commonwealth Bank used to go into schools and sign everyone up to Dollarmite acounts. They may still do it, I don't know.

I know we have the 'Gal's Pals' initiative which is great.

When I was a kid I absolutely loved anything with a sharks logo on it, I bet young Sharks fans these days are the same. It would be disappointing for them not to get a bag full of Sharks goodies with a membership.

Yes the Commonwealth Bank still operates a school banking program. Banking day for miss-fitz today - always a joy!

I think any form of Membership campaign shouldn't be about targeting any particular demographic.

There should be different strategies for different groups.

Bear in mind also that the Sharks Membership programs operate within the scope of the overall NRL Membership program. They operate relatively independently but sit under the umbrella of a much bigger network and program.
