Reckon Dino put in a few seasons of Football Manager and decided it was too much hassle

Regardless
I’m thinking this is a good thing.
Maybe if we nominated for a new A League team (MIGHT be a decent investment- maybe) but not some 2nd tier team.
There is no money here like in Europe

Peter V’landys has vowed to keep the Sharks in the Shire by securing much-needed funding for a centre of excellence and to upgrade the club’s antiquated stadium.
The fired-up ARL Commission chairman said funding for the Sharks was a “priority” for the league, adding that the NRL would never desert rugby league in the suburbs.
V’landys added that the Sharks were a victim of a previous NSW government that failed to deliver on promised funding to the southern Sydney NRL club.
“The game is built on suburban rugby league,” V’landys said.
“Our game lives and breathes from the tribalism that exists within our suburban communities.
“We’re going to continue to prosecute funding for the Sharks with the government.
“The previous government promised it, even right before the election (May, 2022), but never delivered.

“It’s a priority. We secured ($150 million in) funding for St George-Illawarra, we got Parramatta, we got the Bulldogs and the only one that missed out was Cronulla.
“So we’re going to be pushing it.
“We’re going to fix-up Shark Park (PointsBet Stadium) and we’re going to get a centre of excellence. That’s a priority for us.’’
Just over 13,000 fans crammed into Cronulla’s PointsBet Stadium at Woolooware on Saturday night for an elimination final against the Roosters.
The NRL were lambasted by some fans who felt it were ludicrous that the blockbuster wasn’t shifted to a larger stadium in Sydney, including Allianz Stadium at Moore Park or CommBank Stadium at Parramatta.

Sharks captain Wade Graham entered the debate by pointing the finger back at the state government: “I understand the argument, and it’s unfortunate (that people miss out), but we’re in a position where everyone has earned a home semi so we deserve it as well.
“The government should throw some funding at the Sharks to update that facility because the infrastructure there now with the new development needs a new stadium to sit side-by-side with it.
“They’ve looked after everyone else so they need to throw a little down the Sharks’ way.”
V’landys said the NRL would be sticking to their suburban ground strategy for week one of the finals in the future.
“People can scream, yell and carry on, but that’s the reward for working so hard during the season,’’ V’landys said.

“The club deserved the right to select where they wanted to play.
“It’s also about tribalism. This final series shows that we believe in that. Our communities, our suburban heartlands, that’s what makes our game so special.
“Tribalism and escapism are the two words I have on my wall.
“And when you think about the Sharks and what they contribute to the greater growth of the game, the Sharks are one of the fastest growing junior areas, for both boys and girls.
“It’s so important we invest in it.’’

Also a nod to Dino and Vlandys being close

Not sure of the ultimate verdict on the home final?

We did have the numbers advantage, but the more vocal support seemed dispersed and disjointed. Was flat and silent near me. The overpriced tickets probably didn’t help here.

The ground was a bit of a crowded nightmare. Though having said that, there were big queues vs Souths at the SFS last year too.

In the end, it hasn’t worked two years in a row. And even if we had won, it wouldn’t have really helped getting the “big ground finals” experience.

I tend to think we should go to the SFS or Parra in future. If we play another Sydney team, we should try to work out a deal with the NRL, e.g. get an exclusive ticket buying window, and with the Sharks having the central bays at a range of affordable prices (not the normal half-way line premiums).

Is the CSSC still a thing? Felt like we needed a concentrated number of loud, die-hard fans to get the chants happening.

Unfortunately it’s faded this year, with no allocated section, and the away bus trips not really getting support (including myself, I’ve never been fully involved but used to go on the occasional bus trip, couldn’t make any in recent years). I think in the end, the original core has got older and found other responsibilities.

I think any future group would need some more club backing. It’s a tough balance between the family friendly approach and the young/loud/drinking approach. Possibly we could try an official approach, with one dedicated bay, led by a couple of recently retired players, and with a few carefully planned away bus trips (alcohol free buses). Organise a drummer and some tifos. It may be a bit quiet at first but with effort, things could grow. Just advertise it in membership sales as “this is the bay to join if you want to be loud and get on tv”.

But it’s a financial/time cost to the club, and they probably have enough going on.

It's a tricky one. I'm sure there's something we could learn from Blatchys Blues or any number of EPL fan bases.

I do think you need fans leading the chants though. It's awkward AF when the ground announcer tries to get a "Sharkies!" chant going.

Yeah the more I think about it, the more you realise how difficult it is.

Just finding that right group of supporters who are loud and passionate but don’t go over the line, who have the time/commitment to go to most games but are a good mix socially and no conflicts. And balancing the organic vs official approach.

Plenty of excellent CSSC leaders have tried to work it out and keep things going, with various levels of club support, and clearly not easy.

Also the fact that the good seats are now basically all sold out each year, so where do you find a bay anyway.

So I don’t know the answer. The club meets various good young charismatic people in various clubs via the Sharks have Heart program, and maybe some of them could be brought on board to start something. Or get Andrew Fifita in there at home games.

The Chook Pen manage it. I have a couple of mates in there and they have a great time at their home games and made good friends. And somehow keep it going year after year. I think the drum is a big component, just a simple easy chant - Easts

That rules most of us out!

The crowd calculator at Pointsbet seems to be stuck on 12,000 plus a variable number these days regardless of the crowd density & lemgth of queues .

I felt the crowd support was flat all night . It has been the same at a number of games this year particularly in tight games .

Last couple of seasons the club had a recorded Sharkies Sharkies chant to get the crowd warmed up , but like a lot of things these days just because a couple of fans did't like it , it was canned.

I am told there were a lot of empty seats in the upper ET although I couldn't get two tickets together for it .
