Cronulla will consider calling a special board of directors meeting after the Mercury Group on Wednesday presented chief executive Greg Pierce with its performance review.

Pierce had called for the independent body to conduct a full investigation into the club's dramatic late season slide, losing its last 10 games in the worst losing streak in Sharks' history.

The club boss had previously said the review was not a witch hunt for coach Stuart Raper, although with a year still to run on his contract speculation continues to grow that he will be shown the door.

Assistant coach Adrian Lam and sacked Sydney Roosters coach Ricky Stuart are the two favourites for the job should the board decide to terminate Raper's contract.

With increased media speculation over the report the Sharks on Wednesday issued a statement saying it would not comment until the board had met to discuss the findings.

"The specifics contained in the report will then be presented to the Sharks board of directors before anything contained in the report will be made public," said the statement.

"It must be stressed however that the Mercury Group will not be making recommendations in relation to personnel changes.

"That was never the intention or the focus of the review process."

The board generally meet each Tuesday but a club spokesman said the club was looking to hold the meeting as soon as possible.

do ricky and adrian lam work well together??? i rekon they would

but then we'd have to pay raper out and we're not in a great position financially. losing kimmorley - i hate to say it - but if he were to ask for a release or if we to do the player swap with the roosters, all of our problems would be solved: we wouldn't have to pay kimmorley the billions of dollars we're paying him, a great rooster would come to the sharks under ricky, we could afford to upgrade gallen's contract, and we'd have a sucessful halves pairing in seymour/dykes or even kearney/dykes

Sounds like the actions of someone trying to protect their own skin :p

It's sad that we will probably never get to hear whats in the report.

Hi all...

3 possible senarios are playing out here...

1) Raper stays in the top job, Kimmorley and Dykes retain their starting positions, we lose Gallen (spiritually if not physically) and we are 10 years away from winning a comp

2) Lam gets the job - we lose Kimmorely (to free up money for paying out Raper), we attract no real good players for a while and we win a comp in 5 years

3) Stuart is appointed, Kimmorely goes, we change the culture of the club and recruit some quality players - we win a comp within 2 years.

I know which I would prefer - how about you guys???

oh and another thing....did anyone read the article on Nutley? He made teh Super League Dream team in a team that is now relegated. Top tackler and top meters gained in teh competition.. and we let him go... our board is great arent they?

DB, all of the above scenarios sound good in that they involve winning the comp! Given that we have won nothing in nearly 40yrs, even to wait another 10yrs would be better than nothing, while within 5yrs is sounding pretty good and of course within 2yrs sounds even better...how good would that be? I agree it would be great if ricky could be the messiah, but as a long-suffering Sharks supporter I'm afraid that I am not holding my breath for that to happen! :D

Yeah we all knew what a valuable player Nuts was and i was shattered when he left for the UK, although I understand Sludge let him go on compassionate grounds as financially the offer was too good to pass up. There is a school of thought that says there is no room for compassion in business, but I believe that compassion is what made steve rogers such a great person and this place is a hell of a lot worse off without him. As for Nuts, I see he's linked up with ando again at the roosters; he is still a great player and wouldn't surprise if he tops those same stats in the nrl next season, only hope he doesn't do too much damage when he comes up against his old club.

Ricky is bringing a sponosr to pay out Raper.

The management situation is what Ricky wants to be sorted before he signs.

Board shakeup looms

After the dramas of last year when many of us called for heads to roll on the Sharkies board, you'll be pleased to know some fresh faces could soon be recruited...if they can convince someone to stand for election. The Sun Herald says Andrew Ettingshausen was approached to join the board -- but his schedule means it's unlikely he'll accept. The Sharks also approached Glenn McGrath -- but he knocked them back.
But Jason Stevens is said to be keen.

does glenn Mcgrath go for the sharks? do u guys know any other famous people that go for the sharks and if so who?

The Sharks have had a number of high-profile people in the ranks of their supporters over the years, not sure how many are true tragics though. They include:

Supermodel Elle Macpherson whose dad Peter Gow was Shark's president, jockey Shane Dye, Olympic long-jumper Jai Taurima, swimmer turned commentator Nicole Stevenson, surfer Mark Occhilupo, Olympic shooter Michael Diamond, Cathy Freeman and Glenn McGrath.

Plenty of media types also go for the sharkies including Sunday Tele sports editor Phil Rothfield, Daily Tele music writer Kathy McCabe, the Australian's rugby league writer Margie McDonald, SMH business editor Ian Verrender and WSFM's Brendan Jones.

Must be plenty of others as well....

really? i think i remember seeing matthew hayden at a sharks game but not sure 100% if it was him

My opinion

Ex ET we don't need sports people we need administrators, high quality business people and or proffessional directors.

A key pre requisite is that they must be independantly wealthy. So they keep there got damn fingers out of the till.

If we ever need a bowling coach Glenn should be the 1st we ask otherwise good luck with the retirement Glenn.

what does the board do? whats their job and how do they help the Sharks?

The Board Is mainly responsible for keeping members of the Pierce family employed, awarding underachievement and cosistently making excuses for there actions, E.T, OH AR, and Stevo??? give me a break, Sounds like the start of a joke, "Tv personality,Fast bowler and a Virgin walked into a bar"
Come on Sharks Tap Ricky for some of his business contacts. And Stop going for trophy board members

First of all the Sharks board need to have a comedy roast night and get wobo to appear as guest speaker. (That was funny)

We need businessmen not past heroes. Decision makers on the same page, not past heroes with heart strings.

Sharkies board

Sharkies board elections are on from now until Wednesday... Ive been getting SMS messages and letters from various candidates including former Shire mayor Kevin Schreiber and Brian Quinn.

Im going to vote today, but dont have a clue who to back?? Anyone know if there are any new faces up for election? I think Ricky's urging members to stick with the incumbants.
