It was much like most of our AGMs, not a big crowd, some good news, some bad news, some probably best kept confidential:

  • Generally good financial performance as seen in the annual report. Kareela a real bright spot apparently, with a solid profit even in the few months of the reporting period that we owned it. Sponsorships vastly improved this year. The main disappointment is the membership numbers and gameday performance, which is way down since the move to Kogarah. You could really hear the disappointment that amongst all the positives, this is the thing holding us back now. Note that these membership numbers were down even prior to Covid starting. Jobkeeper and NRL grant balanced out the poor crowds and corporate hospitality opportunities last year, but they won't be there this year. Membership numbers flat still this year.
  • Still aiming to get back to Pointsbet Stadium in 2022, but there are significant hurdles that need to be overcome including parking, broadcast setup, and safety/evacuation. These sound pretty difficult challenges, but it's balanced against the membership numbers and the fact we are paying good $$$ for Kogarah this year (while paying upkeep for Shark Park as well), so there is a real incentive there to get back, even if only allowed a crowd of 10,000-12,000. It sounds like it could go either way.
  • Leagues club development on track for 2023.
  • Still working hard for the Centre of Excellence, but the extra grants they are hoping for are too difficult politically currently. They are looking at fallback options so we could still use the State government grant.
  • The question of the head coaching position was raised by a couple of members. Dino answered it well, details probably best kept in the meeting, but basically they are just giving it more time and considering all options.
  • New directors are Matt McGrath and Patrick Burke (spelling?). Don't know them. Dane Sorensen and Laura McKay stepped down. Directors again unpaid, and no expenses/reimbursements were requested either for 2020.

Dino a great presenter, as long as he's there I have a fair bit of confidence in where we're going.

Thanks SF. Would love to know more about what was said head coach related but respect the decision not to share.

Not sure what they expected membership wise, it was always going to be way down away from home. Hopefully it doesn't put us too far in the red/can get people back next year.

Will it be finished by then?

It was on the news and it's meant to be finished September next year, so no won't be ready by then.

Stadium looks awesome and might be the unpopular opinion but if we moved to the new SFS and it was in our interests financially and our long term survival I'd be fine with it.

Obviously the Sharks fans that never leave the Shire and don't know where the SFS is won't attend.

OK didn't think it would be.

Yep would rather be at home but the SFS would be the next best option from a selfish perspective.

Some members on here and facebook were refusing to go to the bonus home game if they had to pay so that doesn't surprise me at all.
Most of them probably still won't go now they don't have to pay either to be fair.

Probably more to do with the eastern side still being a construction zone next year rather than anything else. PB stand won't be able to be used I would suggest.

I really think long term, we will leave the venue

unless significant investment is made and i don't believe that will be done, because the finances dont warrant it.

have you seen the plans for the hotel? its literally in the stadium.

I would be greatly changing the ground in all aspects to fit then new build on the burns side. but thats another issue.

I think so too, especially if the four boutique stadiums are built. Governments won't pay to maintain grounds like ours and I can't see how we can afford to go solo with it.

Agreed, it's not feasible to keep playing here without serious upgrades and we don't have the funds and seems unlikely we'll be getting anything from the government.

If it's in the long term interests of the club to move then I hope the majority of fans get on board. Of course judging by our members numbers it probably won't be the case.

All comes down to the team being successful, if they start winning people will come.

Are we still getting the centre of excellence ? Or is that entirely dependent on the grants from the gov

From post #3379. Not looking good.

Still working hard for the Centre of Excellence, but the extra grants they are hoping for are too difficult politically currently. They are looking at fallback options so we could still use the State government grant.

When sports move towards more cheap streaming services, there is going to be a huge demand for boutique stadiums
