A couple more days left to vote.

Today (Monday) until 8pm
Tuesday 2pm to 8pm
Wednesday 10am to 4pm

Some of the candidates and their supporters were there in the carpark yesterday and you’d imagine some will be around again the next couple of days, if anyone wants to ask them questions

No I’m neutral... I went with a couple from each ticket, a couple from the main board ticket based on their professional careers, and a couple from the rival ticket to keep the others honest so to speak.

Sucks you have to vote in person. Makes is very difficult for plenty to vote, impossible for some.

Gal and ScoMo should prepare a How To Vote Card to eliminate any uncertainty among rational Shark voters. Dino is the man, but do we support his team 100% or is Sparkles McGaw worthy of any consideration? What would Gal do?

I'd love to know the reasoning. **** me you can vote by proxy for ASX listed companies.

Registered Clubs Act doesn't allow proxy voting, but postal voting seems to be allowed.

And the Constitution simply says: "Members shall record their vote in such manner as may be prescribed by the Board from time to time. Failure to comply with those requirements shall render the vote invalid." https://sharkies.com.au/wp-content/...titution-as-approved-at-AGM-19-March-2015.pdf

Note that there is a Special Resolution at this meeting which would remove the need for the election voting to be open for 30 hours (https://sharkies.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Notice-of-2019-AGM-Sharks-Leagues-Club.pdf). I imagine the aim is to reduce costs/increase flexibility, but I wouldn't vote for that without further clarification of what safeguards there are around this.

Notes to Members on the Special Resolution

1. The Special Resolution amends provisions of the Club’s Constitution relating to the voting times for the election of the Board.

2. The Constitution currently provides that the ballot shall be open to members for at least thirty (30) hours and the ballot shall close at 4:00pm on the day preceding the date fixed for the Annual General Meeting.

3. If the Special Resolution is passed, the ballot shall be conducted on such days and during such times as shall be determined by the Board (which may be more or less than thirty (30) hours) provided that the ballot shall continue to close at 4:00pm on the day preceding the date fixed for the Annual General Meeting.

4. The Board recommends this amendment because it provides greater flexibility in respect of determining the voting times for the election of the Board.

Thanks SF but still can't see why it needs to be done in person. If postal voting is permissible under the Act then why doesn't our board allow it?

The aim should be inclusiveness I would have thought.

Yes I agree in theory. I am guessing the main reasons would be:

  • The costs involved in postal votes
  • The work and costs that might be needed to update the constitution
  • Reduce the chances of a takeover of the board by people who aren't regular club members
  • Most boards seem to do their best to retain their positions and limit awareness of election processes.

I think the last two points are the most likely reasons.

Re point 3, you could have some kind of a threshold. Have to be a member for a minimum period to vote.

Most questions answered in this Podcast (from other thread):

New directors are:

Mark Deutsch and Steven Mace (3 years)
Mark McGaw, Dane Sorensen, Dave Nicholson (2 years)

Joining Dino Mezzatesta and ??? (I’m guessing Scott Briggs and/or Gregg Taylor). Looking at the profiles, I would think Martin Kennedy very unlucky to lose out.
