Hey SF, will you be in attendance? What’s your view of the candidates?

I normally go and am aiming to go. It's the best place to hear the actual details of the financial position and development status, rather than all the rumours and doom and gloom. Though looking at the Annual Report, a lot of what they said at the last AGM ended up quite different, particularly in regards to private loans.

In terms of the candidates, it's a tough question. Generally I'm in favour of having a united board that wants to work together, which would favour the 5-person ticket. And despite all that's happened in the past year, I think Dino Mezzatesta is probably the best we could ask for in terms of a chairman, and some very skilled people in the current directors, so that would also make me favour the 5-person ticket. Still there's at least one on that ticket I really question though.

Which would lead me to at least look at the other candidates: Glenn Gorick, Jix Michels and of course Mark McGaw. But I don't really know enough about any of them to be sure they'd do better.

In the end, I respect all of them for putting their hand up, so I think just read the profiles and take your best shot.

I would vote for anyone who promised to make the nomination and election process more transparent...

There's two on the 5 person ticket that I question.
I think Gorick would be a good candidate. Honest, hard working, community focussed. I've always liked McGaw as well.

I guess the question to ask is what are the biggest issues at the moment and again it is cash flow, debt, spending and trying to somehow turn the club into a profitable business with the aid of the development.

So who seems most qualified to try and achieve that.

The NRL will eventually bite the bullet and expand and likely reduce Sydney clubs as well. Not a matter of if but when. Will the club be in a position to survive that? I just don't know whether the Sharks will still exist in its current format in 10 years time.

Unfortunately I agree although might be within 20 years.

One thing is certain imo, we won't be playing at Shark Park in another 10 or so.

It’s sad to say but I think it’s inevitable. The development funds I can’t see saving us. I can see when the time comes we will be pushed out. The current set up of St George Cronulla and Illawarra makes no business sense.

Any whilst the St George club is pretty much just a brand these days i.e no juniors, not much money, it is undoubtedly a very strong brand supported by the strong Illawarra region.

And we are smack bang in the middle with no money, little corporate support and a dwindling junior league.

Although I agree with the geographical component of this, I disagree with the financial component. I certainly do think we are in a more than "salvageable" position based off our financial reports and I do believe we can even become a very sustainable business under the right leadership. It is the lack of leadership that is the problem.

Barry Russell was very right with the needing to cut staff and I hope we don't get people who go out and over spend.

In regards to the corporate side and sponsorship side, we should start with a no ********s policy, combine that with winning games and some renos to upgrade corporate facilities and it will then become easier to get some business $ in.

The problem is I don't think the State Government will fund suburban grounds going forward. I don't know how we can expect to fund upkeep of our ground without outside funding. Sure, possibly short term, but no chance in the long term.

I'd like to see him get the gig so that he can hold press conferences in gladiator gear and use the air horn to signal when its time for the journalists to start asking questions.
