Probably can't get a gig doing anything that doesn't involve muscles .
Surely we need $$$ savy board members .
Does McGaw have any $$$ smarts ?

I love how he included the “Electrical Mechanic” as an education and skill in his application.
No disrespect, I loved the way he played, just funny to mention it when applying for an exec position.
It’s a skill that will probably come in very handy around the club. Flanno mkII.

I normally go and am aiming to go. It's the best place to hear the actual details of the financial position and development status, rather than all the rumours and doom and gloom. Though looking at the Annual Report, a lot of what they said at the last AGM ended up quite different, particularly in regards to private loans.

In terms of the candidates, it's a tough question. Generally I'm in favour of having a united board that wants to work together, which would favour the 5-person ticket. And despite all that's happened in the past year, I think Dino Mezzatesta is probably the best we could ask for in terms of a chairman, and some very skilled people in the current directors, so that would also make me favour the 5-person ticket. Still there's at least one on that ticket I really question though.

Which would lead me to at least look at the other candidates: Glenn Gorick, Jix Michels and of course Mark McGaw. But I don't really know enough about any of them to be sure they'd do better.

In the end, I respect all of them for putting their hand up, so I think just read the profiles and take your best shot.

I would vote for anyone who promised to make the nomination and election process more transparent...

Thanks for the input mate.
Any chance you could give us all a round up of the AGM, once It is complete. Unfortunately I’m located a bit further north than last yr.

I'm very far from an accountant but from reading the reports my understanding is...

  • We basically lost $3.5 million on operations, but made a profit due to recognizing $4 million in extra expected revenue from the development ("Unwinding of discounted proceeds"). Still that $3.5 million loss probably also includes some other accounting concepts that I wouldn't understand.
  • We got $6.5 million from the development in the reporting year. "Expected proceeds from sale of residential land" is now $18.4 million. But based on what was said at the AGM last year, I don't think this covers all the $$$ that are still expected to come from the development, they were talking much bigger numbers last year.
  • We went from $5.5 million of private loan debts down to $3 million
  • Merchandising was down from $3.2 million to $1.6 million, and sponsorship down from $7.6 million to $6.1 million, but presumedly the related costs were a fair bit lower too.
  • We pay $7 million in marketing costs. I am guessing this probably includes something non-obvious though.
  • Key management costs down from $2 million to $1.5 million
  • Overall we had $48 million in revenue (including $13 million from NRL)... you'd think there is room to survive based on that

What I would like to know is, and I am nowhere near as up-to-speed on it as many of you, but what is happening with the development overall? It was spoken of originally as the means to which we would become a powerhouse club with a constant revenue stream for the foreseeable future. Is that still the case? Or have we screwed it up, and selling off areas that were to be the revenue stream in order to cover debts etc?

The development itself is flowing along. Stage 3 will be completed in about 9 mths they say. All the money we've received so far has paid debts and kept the club afloat. The club continues to lose money and take loans to stay afloat.

The future development payments and ongoing revenue stream, it seems to have now been renegotiated to what has just been reported. Have we sold ourselves out? Does this ensure our future? I don't know. If we continue to lose $3million a year it won't last long.
