Can't believe any of the stuff that is written.

On one hand you've got Roy Masters claiming that the 1 year backdate deal applies to all 17 players, on the other you've got Bourbon Bec claiming it has only been offered to some and not all.

What the **** ever - just finish already.

Clearly to go down the "I was doped and duped" path you have to identify who doped and duped YOU and this is what will constitute "substantial assistance"

What today is about is setting up adversariality and exclusiveness of preferred outcome between players and support staff.

To put it simply, gloves are off and it's players v support staff.

Why else did ASADA push so hard to include "support staff" as people who could be served with an ADRV?

MAD... Mutually Assured Distruction

For many years, this is what kept the Cold War "Cold"

I suspect this new "chapter" of the story is very much about divide and conquer. Will players cop a very public and embarrassing whack to protect a Coach, support staff or their mates?

Along with the "Show Cause" notices there would be some accompanying form of signed affidavit indicating the strength of ASADA's case against them.

That has to be done on a case by case basis so the affidavit against one person will probably be different to another person.

I reckon today has brought about a new chapter... one where players might start to evaluate the situation in a broader yet selfishly-driven context. Will they start to question their allegiances and solidarity?

Will they be willing to cop the brunt of the grief and public humiliation in order to protect someone else who comes out looking like their sh|t don't stink?

Sorry... I don't think so.
Yep.

And I doubt the individual legal advice that they're each receiving would have much regard for the interests of other parties...

Just watched our mate Paul Kent on 360.. He stated that each player today would get a copy of asada's brief against them, so they will know exactly what Asada has gathered in terms of evidence.. Who knows which way this will twist n turn now.

Absolutely have no doubt that's the case.

Just find it humorous the manner in which the entire thing is reported. Zero consistency because I don't believe any of them have the fact or appear to understand the majority of the inner workings of it all.

So yeah, what's the point in reading about it or discussing it at the end of the day.

I'd be more worried about how bad our team looks for next year.

Predictably, the RLPA is pushing this case:

Statement from David Garnsey, RLPA CEO regarding development in the ASADA investigation.

ASADA has today issued show cause notices to a number of Players who were employed by the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks Football Club in 2011.

If Players wish to respond the ASADA legislation ordinarily gives them 10 days in which to do so, and the Players are now taking advice from their respective legal representatives as to how to proceed.

Players have maintained from the start of the investigation that they are not aware that they had been provided with any prohibited substances.

This investigation commenced 18 months ago and the NRL has already determined there was a serious deficiency in governance at the Club and that it failed to provide Players with a safe workplace.

The Players are now being compelled to explain why they should not be sanctioned and so are effectively being held to account for a failure by their employer to observe their duty of care obligations. The RLPA maintains this situation is inequitable and unreasonable.

This lengthy saga has seen the Players endure enormous public scrutiny and pressure and the RLPA will continue to work with the NRL in respect of the welfare of all Players involved in the Investigation.

The RLPA has no further comment to make at this stage.

When articles are published by these people repeating a completely false claim of there being a "causal link" between peptides and cancer relapses, it should be a pretty clear sign that these individuals are gutter journalists willing to do anything for attention. The journalism standards in this country are piss-weak, too many of these writers and editors, especially in the Murdoch papers, are just charlatans.

On topic: G'damn I hope this crap ends soon. Unfortunately, the incompetent coaches and managers who allowed this injection **** to occur may keep their jobs. On the bright side, hopefully this will allow the rebuilding culture that this club desperately needs. It seems Wade Graham, in a year or two, will be the only player from this period left in our squad, probably a good thing.

I am with you on this, but I do hope the people at the club at this time Coach Manager Support staff all have to answear as well to ASADA its not just the players at fault.

And meanwhile......... Wilson, Kent and Co fail to raise the fact that Dank was at the Manly Sea Eagles for 5 years before he was at the Sharks and Essendon. You can can't tell me that he didn't inject players through that time. I still remember the controversy around Calves Blood injections a few years back whilst Des the Golden Child was in charge. The whole thing has been unfair and unjust from day 1. These Manly Sea Eagles questions have to be raised if they are fair dinkum about this.

Coudn't agree more.
Wilson, Kent etc toe the Telegraph line to get rid of the Sharks.

I don't think Dank came to the Sharks and just decided to start using peptides etc from then.
In the time he was at the Sea Eagles they won a Premiership and made Grand Finals. We won nothing. Typical bullying, lets pick on the weak kid.
Maybe the NRL doesn't want more blank years, after Melbourne being stripped of their Premiership, if Manly had their's taken off them because of drugs.

I would think before any player admits anything, they want to know what wada is going to do.. If they (wada)sign off on the 3 weeks then maybe they take it.... Bloody hell melb dogs all cheated without question, didn't seem to hurt them..

What I cant understand is this. If the evidence is so "compelling" why are they offering a slap on the hand ban rather than just pursuing the 2 years for all?

Because they are also human and I imagine can see the players were mislead to a degree by people they trusted. So in order to bring the correct people to justice they are giving the players a last chance to co-operate and assist - but if they don't they will all go for 2 years.

As in the case of Ahmed Saad and others a sanction can be appealed but if it upheld (which I think it would be as I reckon the NRL is fully supporting the deal) then that is the end of it. WADA will not take it further.

I think that's how they want it to be seen but I am skeptical. Firstly WADA will not allow it. Period. They will appeal it that is certain.
The offer reeks of a last desperate attempt to claim scalps before they are stretched too far to fight a war on 2 fronts IMO.

If ASADA bans the players for two years they'd better have a well presented case.

Otherwise the cries of injustice are going to resound for years to come - and this **** is irritating enough already.

All WADA can do is appeal they have no actual power to enforce sanctions - Another example of this is Tyson Gay - he tested positive for an anabolic steroid - that should be a 2 year ban straight up its black and white. USADA banned him for a year and backdated it. WADA reviewed the case and did not appeal as he gave assistance, he named his supplier.

So yes WADA will allow it
