Some people are saying the new head of ASADA is setting a trap - fishing for confessions with 1 month bans, knowing that WADA will not accept that and overturn it.

I think what is being reported refers to a difference between 'unapproved prescribed substances' and 'banned substances'.

For example a not for human use substance may not be or have been on the register.

They need to prove each individual was given either or one of the substances. Not throw a blanket over the club. This wont happen without a confession

I don't know if they could really do that.

It's very unethical for a start.

SO as we would all know now there is no such thing as a 4 week ban under the WADA code.

However I assume NRL can ban players for a breach of their own medical policy (or make up something) if ASADA was to say we can not prove any PED's were taken but the substances taken were not approved for human use or prescribed by a doctor.

The NRL could then sanction all the players - who serve a punishment appease the media but never get the "drug cheat" stigma.

Win Win really.

I have no idea if the above is possible but from a PR spin point of view it would tick all the boxes for everyone involved.

Except it has cost this club millions!

It's like charging someone for Murder, go through the media spin of guilty for 2 years, only to find out it wasn't murder but suicide. Only in this case no compensation.

The report this morning about the month ban referred to unapproved prescribed substances, rather than banned substances. There must be a hard line drawn to seperate the 2.
You would think generally if its not approved its banned but as they register substances which are banned, if the substance isnt on there or they havent heard of it they cant just say, yep thats banned you are suspended.
As its been all along, they are struggling to prove what went into who.

Although it will probably be used as a convenient excuse when Canberra spank us with our wooden spoon after another flat, spiritless and spineless performance at home.

I sort of hope this is true, I rekon there are to many people in high places be it Asada or government with to much to lose if this one month ban went ahead.. Footnote will happily embrace the wooden spoon off Canberra this week if it means all this finishing.

It's obvious ASADA is fishing for that elusive confession.

And I can honestly see the the players weighing up the options in their heads, 1-6 month ban and they can move on with their lives, but with the stigma of being labelled a drug cheat, or fight the good fight and not give in, which will push ASADA to continue the 'investigation' till they say when, and the rest of the class of 2011 will all be retired with dark clouds over their careers.

Everyone is right to be wary of a 4 week ban, but then again, stranger things have happened - http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...-says-its-time-to-deliver-20130501-2itbb.html

Generally well played sir.
Thank you.
But all jokes aside I am very concerned about this. I have to admit that the idea of 1 to 6 month bans sounds great compared to the idea of 2 year bans but something just isn't right. I hope I'm just being paranoid.

And my guess is the day after the bans are made public the next headlines will be about gordan/cockdoba and co.

I'm going to inhale a box of beer to celebrate the day this is finalised.
