I know politicians cam be stupid at times but I'm not really sure that pissing of the majority of Australians by saying that the entire sporting landscape was rife with illegal and banned drug users,
as well as being linked to some underworld criminal organizations, is a good example of being "opportunistic", when the "evidence" has been flimsy at best.

Then again maybe it is the perfect example of how out of touch they really all are.

The original report was from the ACC mate. ASADA may not have been able to use the ACC gained evidence and intel but I'm pretty sure the Ministers, Executive and Department Heads would have been privy to the non-redacted and sanitized ACC report.

Cheers mate.. It's been so long you forget how it started. I still think politicians are masters of
Stuffing up things that should be a lay down mazaire. Not saying we are guilty btw

This is the frustrating, ridiculous part. They should be able to and if they could, this would've been resolved 18 months ago.

I also believe if we had that info to act on we would have a FAR better club right now...

This is exactly the mentality I am talking about. You may be confusing criminal law with the ASADA investigation. What is the burden of proof they operate under? I would suggest it's not beyond reasonable doubt and leans more towards the balance of probabilities. And I don't think they had powerade in those syringes.

What mentality are you talking about?

I'm not suggesting that there was Powerade either - quite the opposite, but regardless Im curious about trying to convict/punish a group of people based on evidence surrounding individuals within the group as a whole...if there was specific evidence, it seems to me that it would have been acted on.

I may be biased, but on face value, this seems like a last throw of the dice for an investigation that cannot prove specifics...and...if this is the case and we had legal advice (which we do), the advice much surely be to say nothing?

I'm not taking sides here, but Tef was referring to the requirements for "onus of proof"

He was trying to explain how this is different from a criminal trial.

OK - so there is a lesser 'onus of proof'...I'm not making a statement but putting something out there for discussion.

ASADA can (seemingly) prove items existed but not that any specific person took what at any time. They need the players to incriminate themselves or each other...this hasn't changed all along... The bait just got more real to 'make it all end'...

The more people that know something, the harder it is to keep it secret. There must be 20+ people that know about this (at least).

MAD... Mutually Assured Distruction

For many years, this is what kept the Cold War "Cold"

I suspect this new "chapter" of the story is very much about divide and conquer. Will players cop a very public and embarrassing whack to protect a Coach, support staff or their mates?

Along with the "Show Cause" notices there would be some accompanying form of signed affidavit indicating the strength of ASADA's case against them.

That has to be done on a case by case basis so the affidavit against one person will probably be different to another person.

I reckon today has brought about a new chapter... one where players might start to evaluate the situation in a broader yet selfishly-driven context. Will they start to question their allegiances and solidarity?

Will they be willing to cop the brunt of the grief and public humiliation in order to protect someone else who comes out looking like their sh|t don't stink?

Sorry... I don't think so.
