Bird wants to stay. He will give the sharks last offer before making a decision.
Nothing wrong with getting as much money as possible. If Newcastle are offering heaps thats not Birds problem.

Yep ive got absolutely nothin against bird chasing money. He was part of ohr premiership, those guys will forever be remembered by us for that. But if they want big money id rather they go elsewhere and help create an imbalanced side there

I'm sure half of that money will come from 3rd party sponsorship arrangements, some of which probably contravene the TPA rules as they stand, but that's OK ... NRL-run teams don't have to follow those rules.

Since when? When have nrl run teams had an advantage with third party payments?

Jarryd Hayne to the Titans. Dodgey AF ... no way the NRL would let someone else pull that crap.

Gotta agree with BWB. The idea that the Clubs the NRL is propping up get any special treatment is silly. Just look at 'em FFS - apart from this surge at St George (which I'm skeptical of it lasting) they're all crook as.

What? The rules are there to bring in a non league contracted player at any stage. June 30s only for transfers.
Nothing to to with June 30.

You know the Titans made the 8 last year right?

There are a few things that were allowed in the Hayne deal that might not have been allowed elsewhere ... that's all. Biggest one ... he got paid $1.2m for a few Months last season ... and got to consume $400k of their $600k marquee player allowance (which was apparently free) for 8 weeks work. Hayne got $1.2m for 8 weeks, and and other $1.2m for 12 Months work. It wouldn't have been possible under the cap for the Titans to pay that $2.4m proportionally over the period because the MPA is only $600k per season and they had $200k committed.

The NRL have had a crack down on "front loading" contracts in the last few years because it got ridiculous ... but Hayne's contract is front loading to the extreme.

Titans made the 8.. then got shafted in the finals by the NRL's own refs. Go figure.

If the NRL were making allowances for the teams on their bill they're doing a **** job of it.

I haven't been privvy to his how Hayne's contract was structured, but if I was a Titans fan I'd hope he activates any get out clauses sooner than later.

Same. I like Bird but i'm comfortable with that. There could be some bargains around if the cap is not as high as it was thought it was going to be. I want to give Flanno some pocket money.

I agree 100%
Don't pay overs in this time of madness without anyone ( except perhaps the Bulldogs) knowing what the final cap will be .
Could be bargains galore from the clubs paying overs when the dust settles .

Definitely some **** to hit the fan when the cap is announced. There were a few that budgeted for $10M and I don't think its gonna get there, so some Clubs could already be over, others well under.

The 8 games a week are just filler for what is a cluster**** soap drama of a competition. Greenberg and his team need to be fired into the sun.

There is definitely NRL interference / bias though - Nobody has ever explained how an over the cap drag queens were allowed to sign Benchy for example...

This is true, but it's still a valid example of rules for some and not others.

Dragons released a guy to sign benji. I think the timing was the issue. However if its the same as haynes deal of coming back from another sport then he could sign at any stage. If they released was it michael whitt? And benji comes in they still have 25 players. Cant comment on the cap cos i dunno what their situation was

Yeah I don't really recall much of the goings on other than hoping like crazy he didn't come to us then a sigh of relieve when he signed elsewhere. Followed by plenty of laughs watching him stink it up at Saints.

I'd be happy for our competitors to be over the cap if its to accommodate Benchy TBH.

This is all hyperthetical but if reports are true that we have offered Bird approx 800k & Chad to sign on for..... Let's say 600k, that's a total of 1.4 mill. (Option A)

Would you prefer or think we could get Foran for 900k & someone like Whare for 500k the total for these two also would be 1.4 mill. (Option B)

Would you prefer option A or B?

With the likes of Gallen ,and Lewis and Heino leaving I hope Bird stays and we chase the likes of Kikau from Penrith , Kane Evans at the chooks and Dean Whare to slot into the backs. Push Bird to lock Evans and Kikau off the Bench.
