I'd offer him 550k, 600k at a stretch.

I'd assume that the club would be offering a little extra because our fans have become attached, not that that's a particularly good reason when you're trying to manage the cap.

He just simply isn't worth that type of money. You simply take 500k and buy someone like Michael Jennins, Will chambers, Tyrone Peachey etc. Plenty of good centers you could buy for 500-600k and then you buy an good winger to replace Beale as well.

Don't need a winger when you have M.Jennings, Ive never seen him pass the ball.

Terrorgraph saying that Parra have withdrawn their chips from Bird's gravy. Just us and the Tinkler's old Nighties now

Parramatta pull contract offer for Jack Bird
Zero Tackle - April 5, 2017 - 2:51 pm
The Parramatta Eels have pulled their multimillion-dollar contract offer for Jack Bird, leaving the Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks to battle for his signature.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Eels have ended negotiations with Bird, feeling that the early season form of Corey Norman and Clinton Gutherson has shown enough for now.

Would all be speculation of course.

So the new proposed cap is 8.8 mill. That's the nrl's first offer, so it'll end up being more than that. If it gets to 9.5mill, then 820k for Bird is fine. The cap covers 25 players right? 5 mill on our big 7, Wade, Prior, Fif, Bird, Val, Maloney, Chad, then the rest get an average of 270k. Some only 120k, others 400k. Workable.

This salary cap **** is easy. I have no idea what all the fuss is about:gal:

I see the Bird situation a bit like when Snowden and Douglas left.

I want him to stay, but if he's going, then so be it.

Lets find ourselves a replacement - it might actually turn out better for us.

So if they say there is a problem I'll take it that there is not.

Imagine the sook if we just pulled our offer and said see ya haha. We've offered him the richest deal in club history (per season), knights have done the same. Clearly theyre more desperate.

Same. I like Bird but i'm comfortable with that. There could be some bargains around if the cap is not as high as it was thought it was going to be. I want to give Flanno some pocket money.

Townsend is staying. Bird is gonszki.

I hope you're right. Personally, I think 600k is a stretch for him, but this whole negotiation process for Bird has just pissed me off and I'd rather he left.

Offer 500k to Whare, we won't get the flashes of magic we get from Bird but overall, we will get a much more consistent footballer without the ego.

Panthers backs when fit will probably be 1. Moylan, 2 DWZ, 3 Peach, 4 Blake/Hiku 5. Mansour. Whare not a certainty at the riff.

You could get an elite right centre and winger for what bird is asking. Remember we will likely need to fill lewis' spot too. And gal (bakuya) and heighno. We've got so much cap space if all 3 retire, plus bird going. Im glad we arent just matching newys stupidity here

Bird wants to stay. He will give the sharks last offer before making a decision.
Nothing wrong with getting as much money as possible. If Newcastle are offering heaps thats not Birds problem.
