From the lurker
Sharks star James Maloney is being shopped around to rival clubs even though he is under contract for next season.
Maloney’s management believes he is underpaid after he played a major role in winning the club’s first ever premiership in 2016.
The cheeky five-eighth is the heart and soul of the Cronulla team and without him, it’s doubtful the club would have taken the title.
Maloney is on fair money but has asked for an upgrade - and the Sharks have knocked him back.
As a result, his manager has spread the word to rival clubs that he may be available for 2018 if the price was right.
It’s an old trick to force Cronulla’s hand - but the Sharks have salary cap problems - as most clubs do when they win a premiership and the value of their players goes up.
And if they don’t come up with extra cash for the goalkicking pivot, Maloney may request a release and go to a rival club.
Stand by for the matter to come to a head now I’ve brought it out into the open - even though both club and player are likely to deny there is any problem.
Bird has a verbal agreement with Newcastle on a deal worth more than a Million a season, he is giving Cronulla a chance to get as close to the offer as possible.
From Egg's mate.
Hopefully we come nowhere near it.

I'm sure half of that money will come from 3rd party sponsorship arrangements, some of which probably contravene the TPA rules as they stand, but that's OK ... NRL-run teams don't have to follow those rules.
All good. Tinkler said he would chip in !!I'm sure half of that money will come from 3rd party sponsorship arrangements, some of which probably contravene the TPA rules as they stand, but that's OK ... NRL-run teams don't have to follow those rules.
Yep, bye mate. Even the 820K figure being bandied around wouldn't be close to a million so it's pretty much a given that he's gone.
He just simply isn't worth that type of money. You simply take 500k and buy someone like Michael Jennins, Will chambers, Tyrone Peachey etc. Plenty of good centers you could buy for 500-600k and then you buy an good winger to replace Beale as well.
