For those who haven't seen the Sharks' 8.45pm update on Fifs

Andrew Fifita Injury Update

In updating the condition of Andrew Fifita, after conferring with specialists today at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, the Sharks can inform that Andrew has suffered a laryngeal fracture and is currently in an induced coma.

Andrew is in a stable condition, with a surgical correction scheduled to take place tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.

He is receiving the best possible care and all going well, it is expected he will recover in hospital for an extended period.

Andrew's wife Nikki and the Fifita family have expressed their appreciation to all who have sent messages of support and offered well wishes.

The Sharks will provide further updates when more information comes to hand.

Theres literally been people saying ‘this **** needs to **** off’ plenty of times

Got to agree with BWB on this .
There were a LOT of crap comments , mainly in game day threads , when posters get pretty passionate in that moment .
No need to go back and single out anyone , but it was VERY hard and disappointing to read some of those posts at times ,often quite cringeworthy.
He deserves so much more , has taken pay cuts to keep a strong squad on the field in the past .
We owe him , not the other way around .
A club LEGEND .

I wouldn’t call it passionate posting, more like juvenile and idiotic…

Andrew Fifita could have died if not for the quick intervention of paramedics who rushed him to a Brisbane hospital as his airway started closing.

Extraordinary details of the Sharks forward’s ordeal after suffering a fractured larynx have emerged, including Fifita’s fear for his life as his screams reverberated around Redcliffe’s Moreton Daily Stadium on Sunday night.

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Fifita was kept alive by the assistance of quick-thinking medical officers, who realised his airway was shutting rapidly and he was struggling to breathe, whisking him to Royal Brisbane Hospital for emergency treatment.

Really scary stuff.

Pretty rough to read, can only imagine how panicking it must have been to be finding it harder and harder to breathe
Glad the Sharks medical staff took him to the paramedics and they moved him through to the hospital quickly.

Do we think if Fifita contacted Ponga in the neck and he needed to be put in an induced coma within a couple hours and could have died that it's also not a charge?

No doubt he was going to struggle to be the same player he was in his prime (age and injuries can do that) and that his contract was not going to be value for us anymore but at the same time very few fans show any patience with this poor bloke what so ever.

As soon as he found his way back into the team he was getting written off and bagged out on the forum about 10 minutes into his first stint that he is done even though on multiple occasions we saw that given a bit of time and multiple games back to back he would start to improve and look better, fitter and more effective before unluckily copping another injury unrelated to his knee.

And expecting a legally contracted player to hang them up and get medically retired is easy to say when it's not your life and not your career and passion
If there were attitude issues I spose that can be put on him OR maybe the previous coaching staff could have handled him better I dunno but Coach Cactus seems happy enough to play him (albeit with few other options at his disposal).

Some players don't have the runs on the board with our club or generally speaking to earn the benefit of the doubt, some patience and respect ect. but Andrew has.

Will always love the sharkies Andrew Fifita , seriously worried about the guy and feel sad for him and his fam. hope he better real soon and back on the field for us at some point. Going out like this would be an injustice to the man who has given his big heart and body to this club

Wileder said he was laid down behind the goal posts at full time screaming in pain and stress but actually credited the clubs and medico's speedy actions and gave Andrew a wrap as a decent bloke the opposite of the bs media perception

He gets someone to help him write a book on his life story and career .
Call out a few journos on THEIR take of various circomstances he had to then deal with .
Get Well BIG Fella and write it.
It would be compelling reading

Yes and a whole lot more .
He'd have some absolute CLASSIC Flanno tales.
Love to see Hooper , Kent , Buz and others ALL get called out , when his truth and side of the stories come out.
Nearly missed that grand final .
Ended up BEST on ground

this is truly horrible news

his body has failed him for the last 3 years, but this is not the way he should have gone out

heart breaking stuff

i agree with egg, a fifita book would be interesting for more reasons than just the funny stuff

i would be more than interested in reading a few chapters on why he decided to leave us for the dogs, what happened with the botched deal, why he came back to us instead of going to rugby, playing a first grade game with his brother and of course, october 2nd 2016

One of the podcasts, either Denan Kemps, Finchys or Horos he goes into a bit of depth about it.

Apparently it had something to do with he agreed to a deal them when the contract came it was very different to the agreement. I think there was also talk of legal action regarding difference between the new sharks deal / bulldogs initial agreement

Salary cap impacts aside that was always a big concern for me especially as I felt I could see he was declining. Obviously didn't predict a significant throat injury but currently he was on trajectory to potentially be staring down the barrel of retiring as a Cup player, or maybe a pity NRL game to see him off which would have been awful. I've never blamed him for wanting to stick around club and yes, also reasonable he wants the money from the contract he earned. I also don't blame him for getting a knee injury or wanting to push through it.

Would have loved to see him go and play Super League (ideally with his bro) after 2019. Would have finished with us on the back of a decent season and would have had a good Sharks send off and a good way to round out his years with no impact on his NRL legacy.

Regardless of a potentially spluttering finish to his NRL career (not necessarily yet but it is hard to see him having a much better year next year if he can play on) will always be a Sharks legend and a was at times the best prop in the world.
