Even if it is just precautionary to stabilise the injury, it would still be bloody scary for him & his family. Get well soon big fella

That seems to be going off a few twitter comments what's occurred. To let the swelling go down so he breath on his own with out as many issues. Let it heal a bit.

Sounds like surgery might be on the cards aswell.

Pretty average take, who has loved to hate him?
I've strongly pushed we should try and move him for last couple seasons, probably more than anyone, and not once have I hated him or loved to see him struggle. If your take away has been that I loved to hate him you haven't actually been reading (or understanding) my posts.

I always feared he'd go out with a fizzle, tbh I'd rather see him go out now through injury than just not get selected all next season and then retire, which is pretty feasible and would really suck for such a legend of our club.

The other Jack Williams had this in preseason and I think he ended up back is NSW Cup before it stopped, so depends on how serious.

Did i say you?

Read all game threads when hes been playing. So many (probably including me) off him big time. Like i said its not important.

Hes a club legend and always will be.

No, hence why I asked who.

His play has deteriorated since he ****ed his knee, calling him out for not playing very well (when he isn't) in a game day thread doesn't equal loving to hate him either I wouldn't say.

I to wish well for the big fella, he is one tuff hombre. Anyone who has had a bump to the throat/windpipe knows it ****en hurts and for him to sustain serious injury would not be a pleasant experience. Hope to see him up and about in a short as time possible.

Think most people are in the same boat. Club legend who will always have a place in our hearts. Has been underdone the last couple of seasons and we'd prefer to see him go out in style than be out in the 'played a year too long' bucket.

Looking at how he's been playing and what's just happened, I can't help think it's a little disappointing that the club let him play first grade again. He's so obviously struggling fitness wise. I'm not blaming anyone, but the poor bloody gladiator getting a serious injury isn't that surprising. You don't need to be much off the pace to get into dangerous positions in today's game.

Best of luck Andrew, hope you're well soon

You gotta ask though, we bag a player for his fitness but theres a whole staff put together to train them. Fair enough in injury rehab you may not get the full cardio and weights experience but still, the staff need to get those players in peak condition.

Fifitas decrease is mainly due to age and just battle wounds. But hes done that for our club. I was always happy for him to play out that final year of the deal, even if it wasnt great value for the club. He earned it.

Either way i want to see this guy be able to finish his playing days/sharks days being chaired off the field by his team mates, anything less is an injustice to the bloke

Not sure if it was then or not, he did come back for start of second half, just watched though and no obvious moment… he started second half miles off the pace though so perhaps was from when he dropped in first half

I think it happens when he goes to tackle Frizell during the tackle before the second Tuala try. You can see Frizell make contact I think with his hand near the throat when trying to defend. If that's it looks pretty accidental. Also Fifita doesn't seem to react what so ever.

That might not be it but the paper mentioned Frizell so presume that's it.

I'm wishing Fifita all the best, he doesn't deserve to go out like this, he has been so loyal to this club & a player I will never forget. He might be past his best but every player gets to that stage unfortunately, the game might just be a bit too fast for him now considering his age now & with a few too many injuries recently unfortunately. He'll never be forgotten for his premiership winning try just barging his way over like that under the sticks.

Not a retraction mate, im just not gunna go through 4 years worth game day threads to dig up the ****. You know its there.

People have said his best is behind him and we're not getting 800k out of him. I don't see that as hating on him, it's a fact.

Well ignore me, now they think it's a tackle from Klemmer who is using his elbow a bit to wrestle in the tackle. It's not great but seen way worse.

Very sad to hear this has happened to Fifita.

Appears to be the exact same thing that happened to halfs Jack William in the preseason. He was hit in the throat and was struggling to breath, very scary from reports. Placed into a coma.

I dont think any true Cronulla supporter would be wishing him anything but a speedy recovery.

Fifita admitted to intensive care after 'significant' throat injury

Sharks prop Andrew Fifita has been admitted to intensive care and sedated due to the throat injury he suffered in Sunday's loss to Newcastle at Redcliffe.

Fifita is understood to be in a stable condition after suffering a "significant laryngeal injury" and experiencing breathing difficulties after full-time.

Continued swelling in his throat has led to doctors sedating the 32-year-old former international, who is due to spend several days in Royal Brisbane Hospital with his partner Nikki by his side.

A decision on corrective surgery will be made once his family and Sharks officials are able to meet with a specialist later on Monday afternoon.

Any operation would almost certainly end Fifita's season and place his career in doubt heading into the final season of his contract with Cronulla.

The Sharks released a statement late on Sunday night saying Fifita had been treated by paramedics at the ground and admitted to hospital for further treatment.

"After the match, Andrew reported difficulty swallowing. He was also noted to have a hoarse voice at this time and his care was escalated to the paramedics with a suspected laryngeal injury.

"He was taken via ambulance to hospital, where a significant laryngeal injury was confirmed."

Fifita's issues only exacerbate a front-row shortage for the Sharks as they fight to keep their finals hopes alive against Wests Tigers on Saturday.

Cronulla has the option of pursuing a short-term loan player from a rival club like Canterbury did last week with Ryan James and Corey Horsburgh, however Sharks officials struggled to land a replacement half when conducting a similar search in recent weeks.

Starting prop Aiden Tolman is facing a two-week suspension for a cannonball tackle on Knights opposite Daniel Saifiti, who is feared to have suffered medial ligament damage in his knee from the incident.

Cronulla teammate Braden Hamlin-Uele can take an early guilty plea and $750 fine for his high tackle on Connor Watson, but the Sharks will still be scrambling for big men given Royce Hunt has not returned to their Queensland bubble after the birth of his first child.

A long-term foot injury for Franklin Pele (foot) has further depleted their forward stocks, though second-rower Teig Wilton (hamstring) is a chance of returning in round 23 which would allow Jack Williams back to shift into a middle role.

Former Raiders forward Kai O'Donnell will come into contention for bench spot against the Tigers just weeks after signing a train and trial deal for the rest of the year.
