Time to get over it
I reckon ey. So hurt over a nothing stir the pot comment from 7yrs ago that you create a hypothetical world where we have more success but we're stilll a victim of nasty old Gus. You could've dreamt up any scenario. We could've won the comp & everyone got BJs & beer but you went with Gus being a meany.

Yep, it's quite funny really. I laugh at the constant **** in here about Gus hating us. Anyone that listens to his podcast can see he talks about us the same way as he does every other club.

The logic is so insular it isn't funny. Same with Brandy.

That post is longer and more angst ridden than my hypothetical. Maybe you should be the one getting over nasty old me

Does this prize extend to forum members, or just players?

It's not so much that Gus said it, it's that he picked 2016 to make that comment while ignoring other premiership winners and seasons where the same sort of argument could be reasonably made.

If 2016 was a soft comp then so was nearly every other season that a team won the premiership. 2023 is the softest comp I have seen in a while IMO. Only 2 proper good teams.

Gus cited the fall of traditional heavy weight teams like the Sea Eagles & Roosters that season as if that is somehow the Sharks problem.

I got over it a long time ago and I think most of us just poke fun at the comment these days. Looking back it was ignorant and disrespectful of him when you consider what we had just achieved and against the Storm in a GF of all clubs. We were a seriously strong team that season and well coached.

Doubt that's how he intended the comment to come across though, was likely just having a Gus moment of trying to be controversial/ sound insightful not stick a dagger into the Sharks season.

And no he doesn't hate us, has a soft spot for us if anything. Lives in the area, son was in our systems, gives our pathways a wrap, loves the Bermuda ect.

IIRC the Sharks were his hot tip to win the premiership in 2016

Interesting. I think the only way Betr make another offer on Penrith is if the GF is Penrith v Warriors.

Storm part-owner and chairman Matt Tripp has revealed his betting company, Betr, will actually turn a bigger profit if favourites Penrith beat his side in Friday’s preliminary final.

More than 300,000 punters signed up to Betr late last year, with the corporate bookmaker offering 100-1 on any team to win the AFL or NRL premierships.

The promotion allowed punters to bet a maximum of $10 for a $1000 collect, and there was a flood of money for the Panthers to win a third straight title.

But Betr founder Tripp said more than 30 per cent of those bets had since been paid out to punters who took a lesser return, rather than risking it all on grand final day.

And the fact Betr backed Penrith at rival betting companies means the final payout is no longer the worst result for its business.

Tripp said the difference between Penrith and Melbourne winning the premiership was almost $1.5 million, with the latter scenario much worse. Tripp said the final payout is closer to $2 million if the Broncos win the competition.

“It wouldn’t matter if Melbourne were $10 million worse than Penrith – there’s not enough money in the world to make me cheer for Penrith,” Tripp said.

“There’s no scenario or dollar amount that would get me to flip my allegiance. Even though a Penrith win might be better for Betr, I hope we win [Melbourne] and win convincingly.

“I look at the book on every game in every sport all over the world, I look at every horse race, but I have no interest when it comes to Melbourne Storm games.

“I just want to enjoy watching my team go around every week.

“Penrith is a better result because of the hedging strategy our guys have deployed. That basically means our traders have backed Penrith elsewhere throughout the year, and offered cashouts throughout the year to break down the liability.

“Brisbane are our worst result, followed by Melbourne. With Penrith, our guys thought they would win a long way out, so they kept them safe, which means it is now a better result for us.”

Penrith are $1.70 premiership favourites ahead of the Broncos ($2.50), the Storm ($11) and Warriors ($12). Melbourne are $4.85 to cause an upset against Penrith ($1.18) in Friday’s preliminary final.

Would love to see all these remaining 100-1 punters take him to the cleaners.
They'd have hedged their exposure with other bookmakers... won't end up too much out of pocket and the ongoing advertising gives them a free kick.

Yep, it was a well concieved launch campaign that's giving them legs through the whole season. Well worth the payout for the small percentage left that end up snagging it

I'll be hedging if the Panthers get through.
