Hunt wasn't even in the top 5 best players on the field that night but a player from the losing team usually scores a sympathy vote or so it doesn't look too biased / one sided

Dally M's is such a flawed process anyway, the judges aren't even consistent for each game week to week and well known players tend to attract votes at the expense of lesser know ones at times even if they had strong games (ahem Ikavalu) . At least they didn't forget Talakai who had a monster game. Best on field with Hynes.
The question is - and I hope the judges know the answer - is it a vote for Best Player on the Field or for Most Valuable Player.
We had a lot of players who I agree had better games than Hunt but as there were a lot of them their value to us was individually less, Hunt was the Dragons best and arguably very valuable to his side in the game.
I struggle with this question a little myself for our own votes, a spine player having an 8/10 game will usually be more valuable to your team than a centre having a 9/10. And then I still hold players wages against them/in their favour at times too...

Back on Dally M Yeo leads with three weeks of 3 votes and not even Panthers fans think he should have got any votes last round.

Hunt at 7, Nicho at 6 would be amazing.
As like a one off I agree but overall I like Nicho in the 7. He wants the pressure & challenge of being the man and so far it looks like he will wear it well

I know it doesn’t mean anything but for the NRL Team of the week, only three Sharks were included in those you could vote for.

Matt Ikuvalu
Nicho Hynes
Blayke Brailey

Yet you could vote for Ben Hunt if you wanted to. His inclusion meant 5 half backs who won their games were not put up for nomination.

I suppose that’s where it can all get lost.

People can argue Hunt was definitely valuable for his team, more than say maybe Brailey was for ours because we had so many good individual performances. In a closer game where some of the Sharks weren’t so individually good I could agree, but just my opinion not this one.

I still have Brailey, Ikuvala, Kennedy etc as having better games

Did he play better than those 5 halfbacks?

I had this discussion with someone about the 3-2-1 when they voted for Royce Hunt after playing 12 minutes. He said Royce was the player who best did his role - which I thought was a fair call. Not everyone is asked to do the same job, so you can't really ever compare apples with apples.

Yeah, not what I'd vote for but I can't fault that logic. Certainly I would consider that to an extent, but probably not just for 15 minutes.

I would want the Dally M judges to all have a clear understanding of how they are expected to apply their votes. Even then different people will vote different and prioritise different things but they should at least be roughly on the same page. "I must vote for the 3 people who were most valuable to their team" or whatever, or "I must vote for the three best players on the field"

Yeah that was me. I think I agree it should be most valuable player vote and my focus has since shifted that way.

If it’s voted on as the most valuable player then I’d be fine with Hunt getting one point.

But I don’t think he was in the top three of the best players on the field.

If there was a better forward over the weekend than Talakai someone please tell me cause it must have been special.

and I actually watched quite alot of the games this round an I don't recall seeing any as consistent and damaging over 80 mins as Sifa

Spot on mate. It’s really not well thought out. But it’s not a huge deal.

100% but you know. It’s not the best 3, but most valuable to their team and in all games for under 12 and younger, we must give everyone credit for their contribution.
hence B Hunt got 1 vote.

he will at least have some comfort in the 3 votes I gave him in the SF voting pole!

Haha - love it when the kids ask why there is no MoM Maccas voucher in game 15, after amazingly all 14 players in the squad have each been the best player on the field once that year.

Don't underestimate the motivational power of Maccas

In juniors we had a coach who owned a couple Maccas franchises for a year... I wouldn't be far off if I guessed we were running last until he offered to shout maccas after every win.
Near undefeated for back end of the season to make finals and I think ended up losing the grand final.
Hope he still shouted maccas after that but all I remember is quickly running off field to hand my parents a tooth that got knocked out (was a little wobbly going in admittedly)
