They have to cry after a loss & chuck their toys out of the cot or they don't care

Can't believe the panthers players were smiling and chatting with the
Souths players after they just lost by 1 point.

Yeah... it's not a good look - but the alternative ain't a good look either.

To be honest, I've given up hugely on professional sport - the more I see it corporatised the more I realise that it's all a confected distraction to reap goodwill and monies from an erstwhile fanatical supporter base. By any measure, it's not really sport anymore for - just a clever marketing of a product that migrates invested passion to obsequious consumption. Support = dollars spent. Do you understand the transaction now?

Apart from a limited catchment of special folk, with an over-obsession with a need for connection and identification vicariously through sports heroes, I can't see that the broader population doesn't really see it for it as a pretty crass, attention-seeking money-spinner.

At some point along the way, you get to realise that you're just a crop to be harvested.

After a loss I'm dirty as **** but when I see my mates from the opposition I still have a chat. I walk off the feild wanting to punch holes in things I'm that angry but mates are mates. It takes a lot of beers to drown the sorrows before I get out of the change rooms after a loss. This bull**** that they aren't allowed to have a laugh with their mates is crap. It doesn't mean they don't care it means they are taking a chance to chat with a mate

It's gotten to the point where players can't socialise with the general public, so they have to hang out with other players. Your team mates can only go so far, so these days more than ever players are good mates with the opposition. And if a lot of them played junior footy together.

I have no problem with them playing a bit of slap arse after the game. They just won't be smiling in the sheds afterwards.

This post is made me sad but it has definitely got a point.

Yeah.

I sometimes wonder why I bother as I feel the same way.

I think I just do it through habit. There's no way I'd take it up now if I wasn't already invested. I've really dropped off watching all other sport. I really only follow the NRL because of the Sharks. And a lot of the reasons why I follow the Sharks aren't really valued by the NRL.

Yeah... I did a survey by e-mail today.

The questions asked made me realise that I'm not a coefficient or multiplier of their brand consumptions and prejudices or within their target metrics.

Why do I support the Sharks? Because they are THE premier sporting team that represents me and my local community - I follow Rugby League because I am a parochial bloke from the Sutherland Shire whose biggest rep sport is Rugby League. If the Rep Sport was tiddlywinks I'd probably be into that big time.

Yep, I can hear a lot of whiney "I'm not from the Shire but I'm a Sharks fan, I bought lots of merchandise and stuff... am I not valid?" response here - Well, that's ok... we all come to the Club for different reasons so pull your head in.

To be honest, I've become so incredibly bored by what Rugby League and the NRL has become - the sport and the media promulgation of itself have become such a ridiculous parody that it's really hard to take it seriously at all.

Ray Warren, Fatty Vautin, Fish-face, Gus Gould, Ray Hadley, Blocker Roach, Phil Rothfield et al., and all the other hanger-ons and idiotic half-witted coterie - what a hat full of moronic butt-holes that no sane person would willingly welcome into their lives or lounge rooms.

The NRL has made the game a joke.

But I'll keep supporting that Sharks logo no matter how far or how near I am.
