Thoughts on Anthony Griffin and dropping players?

Buzz is adamant Hook is in the wrong and that he caused the loss. Also saying dropping them does nothing for culture or discipline. Saying Peachey being droppedlsst year did nothing.

In my opinion a coach dropping 3 blokes, knowing it would hinder the team he still made that call. The club captain broke their agreement, thats inexusable. If he didnt come down hard on him how does he discipline the next guy?

For them that loss is on moylan and co

I blame the players (particularly Moylan). Whatever the consequences the blame lies with them.

Yep. About time a coach layed down the law. Knew it would cost him a game most likely but did it anyway. The media carry on about clubs sweeping things under the rug, then when they dont.....

Rothfield is just offended by anyone acting with integrity. Its completely foreign to him, he can't understand it.

Lets' call it as it is...Rothfield would take every alternative position against the Panthers. You could set your watch to him having something negative to say about them. His personal loathing of Gould is blinding.

I personally think the coach did the right thing. Look at the drama created here when Carney was given countless chances, instead of tough management, we went through months of hell with bad press. No player is bigger than the club and Penrith did the right thing. I would even consider taking the captaincy away from Moylan for the year.

The fact that they lost by such a small margin proves it was the right decision to drop them. Should really hit them hard that they let their teamates down.

But he wouldn't have done if it was a final or a game to make the 8

I doubt the players would have done the wrong thing if a final was coming up. He did the same to Peach last year when he had both his starting centres on the sideline and Peach was almost the form centre in the back half of the year. I am scared about this weekend.

No Coach worth their salt wants to set up a Robbie Farah type situation. A lot of good man management is setting clear, recognisable rules and boundaries and having the guts to dish out the punishment to players or the team if they transgress without prejudice as to whether they're a top-flight player or a grunt.

You have to wonder if some of the players had been acting like big time charlies previously as it was quite a minor thing they got banned for, then griffin decided he'd just had enough. Or he's just a hard ass fullstop.

They reckon moylans been pretty lazy with training as well as showing up late a lot

Exactly, nothing draws a line better than standing down the captain. Good to see really

So six rounds in now, what do people think about no Monday night footy? Much better not having it imo.

I like the Thursday game. I forget every week and then get pleasantly surprised every Thursday when I realize the footy is on. I usually only watched the Monday game if the Sharks were playing - so I guess as far as TV ratings go it has been a big win in the demographic that is my house.

... it does make my weekend of drinking start on Thursday though - so I'm not sure that is a change for the long term good.

Find myself getting home on a Monday and being like "****.. no footy" which means no Matty Johns Show because that just isn't worth turning the telly on for - could cop it after a game and a few beers but I'd rather practice acupuncture on my balls than sit through more Professor.

I'd take Mondays back in exchange of Thursdays. TNF doesn't feel right. MNF felt like it extended my weekend whereas TNF feels like a mid-week game, and its usually Souths or Brisbane so that doesn't help get me excited.

I was never a fan of Monday night games, but Thursdays are abysmal - flick the Thursdays and bring back Mondays.
