I wasn't referring to anyone specifically, which is why I didn't quote or tag anyone.
What is he usually doing when he should - per comments on here - be supporting the runner for an offload?

I don't know what the answer is, hopefully something useful like setting up or being ready in backlines.

I know and agree what he is not doing, which was being spoken about. I am wondering what he is doing instead.
I watched him closely at two live games last year, in attack he'd set up a bit behind the line and then sweep into the backline from the back, that was pretty standard. I never saw him push up through the middle though.

I don't know if that's instructions from Fitz or not being fit? I must admit, he often looks pretty gassed to me....not saying that's the reason.

Yes I asked them to understand what they see and put it in a comment. How outrageous
I understand seeing BB scoot from DH & no one is within cooee. I understand seeing a set straight up the middle & not noticing WK sniffing around very often.

What else exactly is he up to? I don't care. Is WK not doing his job or is it coach's orders? I don't know but really hope its not the latter.

I doubt it’s a fitness issue, although he does lack the top class acceleration to get to these opportunities like some of the guys who always seem to pop up can. Without that he can’t really be positioned for the sweep and push up the middle.

Sounds like he’s playing more like a half in the backline during these times - presumably that’d be what coach is happy with. I def understand the criticism though.

Would be nice to have one of him/Trindall/Hynes/Blayke always in position to take advantage of a scoot or offload. Many of our players could probably push up/support better tbh.

WK setting up more like a half does position us well to quickly spread from an offload which can be highly effective but doesn’t work if nobody is taking on the initial opportunity.

Glad you joined the conversation with this fascinating insight

For sure. It's definitely frustrating when Blayke makes a scoot and there's no one there....rarely anyway.

You said Teddy and Turbo push up through the middle. Are you talking about inside their own half? I definitely haven't noticed that. Those teams definitely run set plays for those guys through the ruck at times but that's not support play.

I reckon those two (and most fullbacks) play like you have described here when they are coming out of their own end.

WK not doing his job or is it coach's orders? I don't know but really hope its not the latter.
You have to admit though that fullbacks with different body shapes get used differently. Coming out of trouble there is no way WK, Walsh, Drinky and Campbell are under the same instructions as Mitchell, Turbo, Teddy and Edwards. Coaches DO give fullbacks different instructions on different teams; it is plausible that the coach wants WK to play differently that how the fans want him to.

I don't need 3 paragraphs to explain I don't know. On whether it's by instructions or not how could I know?

As for not caring what else he's up to instead, I really don't. If shits on & you're not there it doesn't matter where you were. Again if that's the game plan for him to not be present for opportunities I don't know but really hope not.

Unless it's because he's in position for an upcoming play. Those sweeps actually start pretty deep, with the fullback as far opposite as the other side of the ruck at times. It's pretty much our preferred play. Or a push on a shorter side with quick hands to the edge. That's a gameplan. Not sure if it's ours or not.

Maybe the difference between a Paps or Drinky is that these guys seems to be able to support through the middle then join into one of those plays. Is that fitness, speed, or both? Attitude? Just what defines an elite fullback?

They all sniff around the ruck mate, even lazy guts Trell. Campbell smallest, Trell probably biggest on that list & Campbell does more returning & get out work so I don't think its body shapes.

I'm thinking you're right. I'd say speed & fitness biggest factors. I don't question WK's attitude.

They definitely support up the middle mate, have 100% seen it before.

Agree there's more of a plan for them to take hit ups in the middle which is to be expected with their bigger bodies.

Get Atkinson to do that off the bench, support playing, dummy runs, play making in the middle etc

Which player am I criticizing now??
Are you seeking recommendations?

Conveniently nobody specifically asked you for that, you can solve your own problem here.

It's still not positioning that is the issue though. Watch 5 minutes of WK on a yardage set where nothing interesting happens and you'll see a carbon copy of a dozen other NRL fullbacks, aside from the bigger ones taking more hit-ups and the smaller ones more than likely playing dummy half on early tackles or running a decoy.

If he's in the right position but reacting too slowly, that would definitely be an area to improve on.

If he's in different position and couldn't have gotten there, that is probably coaching/strategy.
