I know it's early in the season for this, but at what point do we concede we're not going to play finals footy this year? If we're 0/7, is it all over? 2/8, all over? Or is it not over until it's mathematically impossible to make the 8?
I ask this because I think there has to come a point IF our poor form continues where we bite the bullet and start preparing for next year. Start blooding as many youngsters as possible. If guys need surgery, get it done sooner so they can have a full off-season, things like that.
One thing that happens in the AFL, which I like, is it's not uncommon for a player to retire in the last half of the year if his team can't make the finals instead of waiting until the final game. This means his spot on the list is freed up and another player can be elevated to replace him and therefore play a few games that otherwise wouldn't have been allowed. I wonder if that's the case in the NRL? If so, JMo should retire once/if we're out of contention and elevate a youngster to give him game time.
Thoughts?
