kick it to me kick it to me.

Look when it comes down to it let the soccer fans think what they want they spruke(?) it as the world game but really if it was the world game it would be the number one sport in every county in the world and it isn't. Really there's no such game that can be called the world game or have that title.

Soccer fans it will never be number one in this country it will always be between Rugby and AFL during the winter and Cricket has no equal in the summer.

I think in the future that twenty twenty will give soccer a run for its money world wide as a spectator sport TBH its gaining a large following around the globe Jesus even my wife will watch it and she hates cricket well tests and one day matches but she finds 20/20 exciting.

My brother in laws have played soccer all their lives but none have ever been to an A grade match lol but they go to all the eagles games when they are playing at home says a lot about soccer doesn't it they will tell you fun to play boring to watch.

So the question will soccer grow in popularity in Australia in the future I cant see it TBH, the population will grow so its bound to grow a little but I think League and AFL really have this country to them selves.

Fantastic sport for kids they can learn coordination and teamwork and then move onto a sport of their choosing when the are old enough and that's what normally happens anyway.

Anyway my thoughts on the supject for today

:topic

I think the poll shows that really none of us give a rats ass about soccer when it comes down to a sharks vs anyone thread lol.

one last, I thought fishing was the biggest sport in the world with the most participants!

This thread is funny, but disappointing. I really hope so of you just put your brains away for the off season, or a just trying to stir the pot, cause there is dumb sh!t being sprouted in here.

While I don't mind soccer in small doses, I think its hype is a bit over done, and the 'statistics' or 'facts' about its obvious superiority blown well out of proportion.

No sh!t if there is such thing as 'The World Game', soccer probably has first dibs on it. Somehow that seems an obvious conclusion that because more people like soccer, its better than the rest. I must be missing out by having a home with indoor plumbing, air con and all my other creature comforts like food and fresh water too then.

No soccer team. No AFL team. Mate if we can piss off the Brumbies we'll be right.

There is a Canberra W-League team, i only know that because superstar Ellyse Perry, dual cricket/soccer international plays for them...

I think all soccer teams are full of girls anyway. But yeah, I found this out by accident a couple months ago.

Maybe there aren't enough men in Canberra to field a side? In that case, I think Cap might be on to a good thing there...

The Shire you nub

I wouldn't live there, either.

Why is everyone so concerned about my residency, anyhow?

oh you will be getting an A-League team very bloody soon

I'm not fussed either way. Gotta use Bruce for something in the summer. Keep the Guidos all in one spot for a couple weekends a month. The car park will look like Subaru are having a clearance sale on Rexxies. With any luck the pricks will travel with the team too, which might open up a couple Saturday nights where the City is a bearable place to go for a drink.

I'm liking it. How long till these injury feigning hacks move into town?

Injury feigning hacks? Wrong country

Correct sport, though. You're right about it being the wrong country. Which is why soccer will never be embraced in Australia like it is the rest of the World. Whether its true of Australian soccer or not, the game as a whole carries a stigma in this country that its soft and full of cheats, sooks and men who take dives.

I've watched A-League with an open mind in an attempt to enjoy the game for what it is, and I still see more dives than I care for. Don't profess that the Australian brand of the game doesn't contain this element. It might not be as rampant and blatant as in the European versions, but its there. It has to be there, its the way the game is played by the best Nations. Australian soccer can harden up as much as it likes and remove diving altogether, but when they compete against other countries who freely employ these tactics, Australia will lose. You need no reminding of the lead up to the Socceroo's exit from the 2006 World Cup, surely.

Soccer reeks of corruption and dog acts. Thierry Henry's effort to get France into the 2010 World Cup comes to mind instantly. FIFA though, the massive governing body who can step in and slap all sorts of demands on the host Nations of the WC, were powerless. But then again, if come to who you'd want in the WC, France or Ireland, its little wonder their hands were tied.
