you want to know how many countries play football, that are recognised by FIFA, the governing body of Football..203, thats just about all the countries in this world of ours

here is the world rankings, i gave you a link to the very last page

http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/r...lranking.html#confederation=0&rank=188&page=5

you want to know how many countries are affiliated with the ICC..105, of those 105, do you want to know how many are recognised as proper cricket nations..10 and 2 are very dodgy [Bangladesha and Zimbabwe]

http://icc-cricket.yahoo.net/the-icc/icc_members/overview.php

Cricket World Cup is competed by the same teams every time + plus a few niff nuff nations like Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Canada or Zambia, thats all ive seen..16 teams

where as Football, you have 203 national teams competing for 32 spots, they have to compete against teams in there confederation for only a handful of spots and it can be a complete mystery as to who will qualify

You are a deadset Goose

firstly AFL comes from Ireland, change a few rules and aspects of Gaelic Football and you have AFL..not hard to rip off one mans game and make it your own, hello slamball..the game itself was not invented here, just the stolen idea from the irish..

clearly it went over your head

Sadly mate, not a single one of your posts has ever had anything close to resembling a big enough intellectual challenge to get above waist height, let alone go over my head! Unfortunately for me, I can't help but identify your enormous leaps of conclusion that you try to rationalise as fact without any logical foundation or semblance of evidence.

The fact that AFL may share some commonality with Gaelic Football does not in any way deride the fact that AFL is uniquely Australian. For starters, it is actually named "Australian". Secondly, we are the only country that plays it professionally. Thirdly, it is the major football code in more states of Australia than any other. Finally, the rules and specifics of the game were written and developed here.

None of these things can even be remotely considered true of soccer. It has no indigenous Australian ingredient whatsoever. So, do you still want to try and argue that soccer is more Australian than AFL? If you wish to do so, please include some evidence and/or a logical arguement. Simply resorting to the precedent of "because I say so" doesn't hold water, unfortunately.

who settled in Australia besides the indigenous people..the English, where do you think most australians came from, the convicts..thank you Captain Cook and Co

did you skip year 3 History?

No, I didn't skip anything, that is why I cannot fail to identify that you must have performed very badly in English as your grammar and comprehension skills are sadly atrocious. Your original statement of "Most Australians come from England" is clearly geographically wrong. If people are Australian, then the probability is they come from Australia. Of course, if you meant "new Australians" meaning immigrants then once again, you are statistically wrong as in present day Australian society we have only a very small percentage of immigrants from England. Most of them these days come from Asia, the Sub-Continent or the Middle East.

Of course, I knew what you meant. You were referring to the fact that most Australians have their family heritage originating from Britain. That is not, however, what you said. You clearly said, "most Australians come from England". As I have clearly explained, that is grossly incorrect. For example, I am Australian, my wife is Australian, my kids are Australian as is my mum and dad, my sister, her husband and their kids and just about everyone else in my immediate and extended family. None of us come from England. We do, on the other hand, have a family tree that goes back to Britain about three generations ago. That does not mean we came from England. After all, how can I come from England if I have never been there? It is impossible.

So, whilst that may not be what you meant, it is, in fact, what you said. And.That.Is.Why.You.Are.Wrong. Do you understand now?

So, as you can see, there is evidently nothing wrong with my education. There is, however, an element of doubt about yours!

If, in the future, you do not wish to be corrected on such obvious mistakes, I suggest you make more of an effort to set out your arguement correctly.

They may all have governing bodies in their respectful countries, but by no means does that mean the nation enjoys the sport, do you honestly think they do?

South America and Mexico are "seriously lmao joke countries" and are "**** holes", mate, you are aware Mexico is apart of South America?
Sure they might be a bit un-stable, but them not playing cricket makes them **** holes or seriously lmao joke countries?

Just because it has the word 'australia' in it's name doesn't mean it's Australian, NRL, n=national when infact it isn't national or the a-league where a=Australian, doesn't mean we invented football

only state where afl is the number one code is tardistan Victoria, football covers the same amount as afl, just look at the participation numbers for football in NSW alone, if you think the afl has larger numbers the football you're severely misguided, I'd find the figures if I wasn't on my iPhone

When I say most Australians are from England/uk, I say this meaning the settlement 200 odd years ago, hence my reference to year 3 history, poms don't settle, your not here, none of us are, it would have been settled by the Dutch

Id say those country's are putting in about as much effort as Australia is putting into soccer. And enjoy it about as much as Australia enjoys Soccer

i know where they are. they are still both **** holes. and not because they dont play cricket. but because they are infact **** holes. and i laugh at there **** holeness.

And Peach, AFL is bigger in VIC, SA, NT, QLD then soccer. I wouldnt know what WA is into and that leaves you NSW and Tas which i think doesnt give a **** about anything. So other then NSW id say Ironshark is right

Look I have very little knowledge on AFL but wasn't it developed for by aussie cricketers for the off season as they had nothing else to do back in the days?

So in that case its an All Australian sport.

Soccer = simple game simple rules for simple people that don't want to get hurt :)

You honestly think Australia is putting ZERO effort into soccer?
We've qualified for the World Cup in two successive turns, making the last 16 in Germany, soccer is the largest played junior sport in the shire alone, to say Australia is putting minimal effort into the sport is just ignorant.

OK I know i'm not adding to this conversation at all by bringing this up, but I feel like I must, well my personality forces me too...

The Sub-Continent is in Asia, hence it is redundant to list it, I would also say that the Middle East is also part of Asia if it were not for Egypt being commonly classed as a Middle Eastern country.

I am sorry, I know by Asia you mean specifically the South-Eastern countries and China and Japan...

Who gives a crap? Soccer is boring and crappy and that's why it sucks. No need to harp on about it being the (3rd) world game or whatever, because no one cares. It is just self evidently crap. Like Britney Spears is crap. You can try and argue she's not crap due to record sales but you'd be missing the point. You only have to listen to her or watch soccer to see how crap it is.

Lol, you really don’t have a clue.

Oh, so they don’t count righto then.

That's a lovely website for an amateur organisation. Thank you for that picture of a couple of blokes playing cricket on a rice field. Now I'll show you mine.

Here are the average attendances for the J League 1 and the J League 2 since 1999.

http://www.j-league.or.jp/eng/data/2009/01-03.pdf

In 2008 the average attendance for the J League was 19,278. Even the 2nd division was 7,072. That's pretty good for any professional sporting league I reckon.

The Urawa Red Diamonds have an average attendance of about 47,000. Not too bad either.

http://www.j-league.or.jp/eng/data/2009/01-02.pdf

Fantastic.

Now, I’m not going to argue that soccer is massive in China (because it’s simply not true) but they do have a fairly good domestic league.

The Average attendance for the Chines Super League was 16,482 and the average attendance for Beijing Guoan was 37,528.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Super_League_2009

Well, at least the website for this one is somewhat professional.

It is difficult to find reliable data on soccer in Indonesia, but most unofficial sources put the attendances for the domestic league at somewhere between about 9,000 to 11,000. This is for one of the weaker domestic football competitions in Asia.

I doubt that cricket is getting crowds of between 40,000-50,000 for derby matches in indonesia.

Well, I agree that South America is a joke country because it is not a country at all. But the continent of South America has a population of approximately 371,000,000 and an area of approximately 17,840,000 square kilometres. So I think it does constitute part of the world (and a significant part at that).

You are clearly uninformed, but that type of naive uneducated response just exposes how ignorant you really are.

To exclude large highly populated areas of the globe simply because they don’t fit your argument is ludicrous.

Truth is, you won’t bother with those ones because you can't find any information to justify the stupid position you are trying to argue.

You don’t have to like soccer, that's your choice. Many people on this site don’t and that’s fine. But no-one else on here is trying to argue such a ridiculous point.

Cricket is very popular in many places in the world. But they are generally places which were originally outposts of the British Empire. Soccer on the other hand is popular in a much wider range of cultures and that is why it is known as “the world game”.

as much as i hate it soccer is the world game as it is played by more people across the globe than any other sport.

as for australia's national sport i find it hard to come to a definite conclusion as to what game gets the upper hand. whatever popular sport it may be they all would probably be able to put together a decent arguement as to why they are the dominant code. but like we are a multicultural country, we are a multi-sport country.

The only two codes that could even come close to claiming that are the NRL and AFL.

You totally ignored my post proving you a bs artist by showing football is bigger then cricket, infact every other sport, football is represented in most states as the afl and the a-league has just started expansion, fury, roar, mariners, jets, syd fc, sydney rovers, victory, heart, Adelaide and glory

here's some bananas, last football world cup brought in over 6 billion dollars into the host nations (germany) economy, how do you like those bananas
