I think the main considerations towards Wade’s contract value are:

1. What is the Veterans allowance for 2023
2. Who (if anyone else) is eligible at the Sharks to receive an amount under the allowance (is it 2% of the total cap?)
3. Would Wade be blocking a more deserving player from a top 30 spot

So, depending on the answers to those 3 questions, would depend on our offer and these delays might still be around points 1 and 2.

Everyone is throwing amounts of $200 to $400k around.

So let’s just work off the 2022 cap @ $9.4m as 2023 is unknown (but likely higher).

1. 2% is $188k
2. Wade would be our only player if “at the one club” rule applies. So he either has minimal affect or upto half of his payment falls under the cap (say $200 of a $400 deal)
Therefore the only real question is,
3. Does resigning Wade block a more deserving player of a top 30 spot

So, is everyone happy for Wade to stick around for maximum of $200k cap space based on those assumptions?
its not even the top 30 spot, he is taking teig wiltons spot who is better than wade graham by the length of flemmington

Are they bringing back the veteran allowance? That hasn’t been a things for years. 2017 I think was the last year it existed.

Currently it is a “veteran and developed player” allowance, which almost everyone on the team qualifies for. Just not Hynes, McInnes, Ikuvalu or Kaufusi. Others like Talakai, Hunt, Hiroti might be debatable.

Veteran and Developed Player Allowance for eligible players who were either developed by the Club prior to becoming NRL players and / or have been a Top 30 player for at least 8 years at the Club or have been a Top 30 player for at least 10 years across the game

That $188k is not going to Wade. It’s being shared across the squad.

Also btw. Cap is $9.4m plus a bunch of allowances, so for most purposes you can just use $10m. Abdo has said it will be at least $11m in total for 2024, but it could be as high as $11.5m plus allowances.

Minimum wage is expected to go up too, so approximately $200-400k of the rise will be taken up by automatic upgrades to “bottom of the roster” players.

I'm happy enough with this if the price was right, we are already losing a huge chunk of experience with Fifita and Tolman, plus he fills that club captain/media role.

He had the disrupted start to 2022 with injury, and it's hard then to get fitness back mid-season with games every week. He is still young enough to have a good off-season, and turn things around to some extent.

People seem constantly confused that the Vet and Dev allowance is some bonus players get on top a contract and not just a minor top up in total cap pool that has no relevance unless you have zero or very few eligible players for it

Hard to say happy with the price when we are guessing anywhere between 200 and 400. (Given the veteran and development player allowance can be used elsewhere).

Really don’t think he should be in the top 17.

Only way I would be happy is if he puts his hand up to pass on the captaincy.

He’s just said in a recent interview, he’s had the discussion with Fitz and is happy to play middle, bench, miss games, what ever is best for the team.

If that actually plays out then I’m happy for him to stick around. If Tieg is the best candidate and Fitz picks him to start, then we have Graham for depth or bench it’s probably not a bad player to have around depending on what we paid

Graham on the bench as a sun for either edge if needed or a middle is fine.
Conflicts a bit with already having Dale and Cam though for 13 role. It’d be a rare game plan you want Wade at prop

Dale to get more time at prop? I'd rather Klemmer do that role though, but it'd probably help fit everyone in better

Yeah sadly for him it might suit our team to have him miss more games then play.

Injury to either a Backrower, McInnes or Finucane sees him come in

Can't really have your skipper playing that role. Co-C's or a new one?
