Yeah I just looked at that also - looks like that's the tackle for both charged.
(y)

The Bateman one (which is the one that injured his ankle yeah? Or added to damage from this one) was deemed by NRL to not be traditional enough.
I haven't rewatched that one, Fox bungled that segment a bit.
Yeah. That's the one Toby didn't come back from. Annesley starts addressing it around the 23 minute mark.

The Harper one is pretty nasty.

Maybe need to add Api to the list of protected stars. That one was textbook. Grade 1 ffs. The Dale one last year was grade 2 and he didn't even drop on him. He just held on and went down to the ground with him.

Why didn't the bunker stop a set later and go back and give us a penalty for the Api tackle?

This is the corner the NRL constantly puts itself in with their inconsistencies

Hes a Cat.
Has zero impact and struggles to bend, nevermind break a line.
Yes we have AFB incoming + BHU staying
But id be trying to cut Toby & Hunts contract if there was interest elsewhere.
Re-sign Williams and use Tuuks more
Thatd still give us a 6 man rotation with Finucane (on his reduced contract) + Tommy.

Then use any $$ to see who we can pick up elsewhere

Last three seasons in a row now 10 middles hasn't been enough, and you want to run with 9? You must be keen to see more of Atkinson and Burns.

Toby shits on every other Sharks prop for his ptb speed. He's been better than Williams at that so far this season.

Also zero errors, zero penalties, equal highest defensive work rate of any player over 100kg (with Tom).

I reckon when they have AFB a guy like this would be handy.

Im with you, Toby's a good player. High work rate, makes some good runs carrying blokes with him forward. Lots of tackles

If he can stay fit, he will be great alongside AFB

It’s also fine to say “move this guy on and go to market” but there isn’t anyone on the market or potentially hitting the market who is better than Rudolf.

Bulldogs had a squillion dollars in cap space and couldn’t find a middle on the market better than Max King.

Royce’s spot/role might be in danger long term from someone like Tuks, just because he might be able to provide similar output for cheaper. You don’t move him on though. You let him play out his contract unless he ends up on the Jets for 2 months straight and asks out. That’s unlikely imo.

I honestly have no idea what constitutes a hipdrop, and what doesn't.
What makes it more confusing is that Annesley went to great lengths to explain why the Bateman tackle wasn't a hip drop then went back a season or two to show a tackle which constituted a hip drop.

Why didn't he show the Api tackle (in the very same game to the same player) and provide an explanation?

Annesley came out last year and said:

The sequence they look for is when a defender has a hold of player in possession before they attempt to stop the momentum of the ball carrier by twisting their body into a position behind them. They then drop their body weight onto the legs of the opposition player with force in a manner which could be determined as either careless or reckless.

Apparently you're allowed to jump on someone's leg, just as long as you don't twist your body.

Tackler doesn't have Toby around the hips, it's a fairly around the legs tackle normal tackle that went bad for Rudolf
Just unlucky I would say
