Qld took a leaf out of Sharks smashing Warriors play book , with players off the park .
Spread it and moved oposition around .
Letting the ball do the work .
I reckon it worked a treat too.
MAYBE , the method best employed to beat Panthers too, moving forward.
BUT , or course risky after building a ruck platform first , things then also have to be executed perfectly .

Queensland decided how they wanted to approach this series, picked a squad accordingly and stuck at it.

New South Wales feel like they pick the core of the most successful NSW side at the time, fill the rest with whoever has been most talked up in the media and go at it. If it doesn't work, they baulk and mess around with too much.

Sifa should not have been anywhere near a NSW jersey. To run him out as a middle in origin was shown up immediately – he missed his first defensive assignment. Yeah he tried hard and even made some good effort plays to close some gaps and I think force an error as well but QLD were waiting for him and targeted him.

Sifa works really well at centre in the sharks system at NRL level. Asking him to play origin in the middle with a mostly Penrith system is silly – that's not what he's proven to be good at. Basically NSW need to stop selecting players on current hype, figure out a style and pick players who fit. They have a wealth of talent to pick from and I think that often gets in the way of picking the right squad for the job.
Qld is not immune to this.

Hess was picked for origin a few days after his club coach said he was struggling at NRL level.

Cobbo this series wasn’t one of the best Qld wingers available imo. Mixed bag from him. One good game, one shocker, and a KO.

Sifa selection was definitely one of these. If you get away with the win and can call it “blooding” then it is great for the coach. If the guys ends playing out of depth the coach looks like a tool.

The best way to beat the Panthers is to be a player down?
It's bold, that's for sure

I am never usually a defeatist but I am a realist and thought once Munster was out that was too big of a hill to climb.

On paper that QLD side shouldn't get within 30. Let's not forget QLD came within a whisker or 2 of scoring 4 or 5 tries, it could have been a flogging.
4 (rightly) disallowed tries. They were close though.

It's actually to NSW credit they didn't lose by more, completely outgunned.

Qld manage to find a way (or find the player) to have guys play their best games nearly every time they pull the jersey on even if they aren't in the best club form. Seems so hit and miss with NSW, Paulo who should be one of our forward leaders dropped his first touch. We'll probably never see an Origin game Pat Carrigan drops his first touch (okay, someone dig up the video to prove me wrong haha)

edit: sorry to Paulo, was his first touch back on, not his first touch overall

What is everyone else's thoughts on Fitler?

A roosters supporter at my work said he will be coaching origin again next year after i said he will likely be replaced.

I think he just means he is contracted for the next year or two. But then again, you know what contracts are worth these days...

I dunno, he said he is a good coach and does a great job.

I also mentioned I don’t think tupou will play next year and he got so fired up.

Hopefully he gets an assistant job at the Dogs (I'm thinking even the Dogs aren't dumb enough to make him coach).

Replaced by who?

I mean there's a fair argument that NSW racked up almost as many points in game 2 as QLD did all series & failed to get near their potential again.

I'm not so sure about that.

I have always questioned Fitlers coaching ability, I picked the game 1 loss and even thought last night wasn't going to be definite win. QLD were without Munster but NSW were with Turbo and Latrell, probably their 2 best players.
That's because he's a dud coach mate.

People seem to keep forgetting that a great player doesn't necessarily make a good coach.

Don’t rate him… not enough fire and brimstone to be an origin coach
