I have so many idols over 5 decades, but what makes them immortal?
I think their performances have to stand the test of time. Club records, representative honours and a premiership would have to play highly.

Bloke's like Gavin Miller, who changed our team and probably the game should feature highly but doesn't have the rep honours side of things (and I just read on his Wiki that there was a pretty big run-in with the management during his time). It'll be interesting to see if guys like Rat and Fifita will get marked down due to things like Rugby and off-field stuff, too.

That must've been forgiven and forgotten pretty quickly as that came in his first stint with us in 1980-1983.

If there had been any lingering resentment towards him for what happened the first time the club wouldn't have taken him back for the 6 year spell he had with us from 1986-1992.

Gavin is already a Shark Immortal so just automatically enters the hall right?

Or is that not how we've set it up?

For the young folk that weren't around in those days, the club was as broke as any organisation could possibly get. The only asset that saved us, among many loans and extremely tough decisions was the fact that we owned the ground.

We were the real winners of the '78 final, only to be robbed by a crooked referee, 100% in womanly's pocket.

Soon after we were struggling financially in a big way. There was no salary cap back then, so the cheque book teams stole all the players and ran riot.

I know I'm rambling, but we had our star players, including Gavin Miller, washing windscreens at traffic lights to earn anything they could to help the club stay afloat.

So yeah, there were many years that players couldn't earn what they deserved.

End of rant - that's why we are the best RL club that ever existed. Who else has anything close to those runs on the board?

The only reason Manly and Easts won titles in the 70's but that was before my time obviously.
