Could see them go down the avenue of inducting the 2016 group as a team like we've seen done in other sports.

Would be a good way to honour entire team but not lessen individual entries
I didn't think of doing that, I wouldn't mind seeing them do that however, you'd like to think Galls would still have to be locked in for this one.

theyll do the 2016 team as a whole on the 10 year anniversary

i think Gallen, Fifita, Ennis Lewis and Wado from that team should all be in as individuals one day.

Definitely agree re Ron Turner , should have been in team of half century .

Would also like to see McGaw included .

Gallen & Peachey certainties.

Fifita , Sorensen & Stevens in the short , short list.

Steve Keen is a Sharks immortal in my eyes .
Steve Kneen looks to be only 86 games and I think no Test matches (??), so probably wouldn't qualify. He was on a Kangaroo tour, but I don't think played in Tests. The records are pretty spotty for those days though. Edit: this history article confirms no Tests: https://www.sharks.com.au/news/2024/03/20/this-week-in-history-steve-hayseed-kneen-debuts/

Ron Turner supposedly also only 96 games, though he did play World Cup and NSW Firsts. May struggle with other awards.

I think generally the criteria are a bit tough on these older players, who had shorter careers and less available rep games and awards.

Bit more difficult also for Kiwis to tick 4/5 of the criteria - in saying that it is difficult to argue someone being inducted shouldn't have to tick most of these boxes.

To be considered for the Hall of Fame, a player must have met four of the following five criteria:
  • Demonstrated exceptional performance on and off the field
  • Been an international Test representative. (Including Rugby League World Cup matches)
  • Played State of Origin
  • Played 100 first-grade games for the Cronulla Sharks or won a premiership with the Club.
  • Received a Dally M Medal, NRL-recognised award (e.g. Dally M positional award, Provan Summons Medal, Rothmans Medal, Ken Stephen Medal) or a Porter-Gallen Medal/Sharks Player of the Year award.

And just because you do tick enough doesn't mean you have to be inducted

The 1st criteria, what do they mean by displaying exceptional performance on & off the field do you think? Obviously off the field it'd mean they'd have to be a good bloke & never get in trouble off the field though? Like Carney or Mam recently for example.

Tickets don't look to be flying off the shelf. They should allow seat selection. Nobody really wants to be stuck in Bay 1 Row 1 when there are better seats in the middle.

Matty Johns showed more performance off the field than on for us.

He'd be a long way down the list I'd have thought, no that he wasn't still a decent player for us
Bukuya was always one of my favourites during his playing days, he always played hard & tough for us putting in 110% & rather loyal so he was in my hopes of an outside chance of our 2016 squad but honestly now, your probably right, even if he does meet 4/5 criteria I'd say he's a fair way off yet.

Ron Turner ,

Cronulla hooker, originally from Gunnedah, earned the honour of being the club's first Australian representative player in 1970. Selected in the World Cup squad that went to England Ron Turner was a member of the Australian team that upset favourites Great Britain in the final at Leeds. He was later a part of the historic Cronulla team that lost to Manly in another ferocious clash, the 1973 grand final. The following year he made his only Test appearance when recalled to the Australian side (after a great game for NSW against the Lions) and played in the deciding Test of the 1974 Ashes series, which Australia won 22-18.

Just need to count Amco Cup games or his 11 games in 1st Grade with our best buddies Newtown.

How many games did Ennis play for us? I wouldn't imagine it's 100 (which I think is the criteria)

I would love to see Peachey and Matt Rogers get in.

Gal will definitely get in but wouldn't mind waiting until next round if that means some of the past generations get caught up first.
Gallen is a certainty, Fifita for mine is the best prop we've had, and ticks the premiership box.

There are so many others that meet the technical criteria, but classing someone as a Sharks immortal needs to be carefully considered imo...

I have so many idols over 5 decades, but what makes them immortal?

Steve Kneen was definitely one of my heroes when the game was played when men were men and the sheep were scared, but yes he didn't play enough games to be considered.

I've been trying to think of major outside chances, how do our top previous props make it, Martin Lang & Jason Stevens?

Yeah , Jim Comans didn't help his game tally with a 12 month suspension.
