Brick makes some good points. The Dragons only play 1/4 of games there, so why should Kogarah get the upgrade? And even if it does, I'm sure we'd all still rather go to Woolooware.

As someone alluded earlier, moving to Kogarah permanently just makes us easier again to kill off/be merged, so it's not something I can support.

And as for the "piss poor fan" comments... we're on a footy forum, FFS. I'm pretty sure most people here are right into their footy – if anything too much so.

Of course.

So the dragons play 6 games a year there, Sydney FC maybe 2 or 3? And that justifies $200m public spend?

Can't see the NRL allowing the stains to abandon Wollongong, nor the state government given how much they've spent on upgrading WIN Stadium.

When Win Corp (and their Illawarra ties) own 50% of the merge there's even less chance of that happening.

Has Sloth been getting on the crownies with Doustie again?

You've got a point... there's going to be quite a few decent quality grounds in that south coast area that could fit into the NRL's local stadium thinking

So Dragons play 1/4 of their games there.

Sydney FC playing there is only temporary till the SFS is back (is that right?)

We're only temporary tenants.

I can understand the govt not giving us any money, why should they give money to a privately owned stadium.

But Kogarah is just pissing money up a wall. Same with Brookvale, it doesn't get enough use, but I can see why they did because of geographic reasons. Even then, CC Stadium could have got the money.

Can we sell our ground to the government in return for upgrades there instead?

Yep, i'd take new SFS in an instant. New SFS is on the doorstep of the city, and all the sponsorship opportunities that come with it. A brand spanking new, fully enclosed, rectangular stadium within easy reach of multiple modes of public transport, and a stack of entertainment options pre and post game.

Kogarah is an oval and has to stay so because of the trust rules under which it was originally gifted (i've heard it has to stay an oval to allow for cricket to be played there, even though its been decades since it last did). It's got the same issues as the SCG, funny angles, along way back from the sideline etc. It's also a ****heap, toilet bowl of a ground with nothing anywhere near it except for sizzler.

We move to Kogarah permanently and i'm out. This was the 1st year i haven't been a (season ticket holder) member since 2011.

The sharks have a fair weather member base already and moving away from that base would only add to the problem of actually getting more members.
The NRL judges clubs on KPIs which membership is high on their list. We have been steadily increasing this (except for this yr, COVID). If We move to SFS, that would affect our membership massively, In turn we have more focus from
NRL, thus giving media and other clubs more opportunities to aim at sharks, which we don’t want.

We have large amounts of members who are outside the area, who attend the stadium (shark park) , as it is our home ground, not kogarah or SFS. We are Cronulla Sutherland sharks, not the kogarah or Sydney or SFS sharks.

We have our friendly FB keyboard warriors, who are complaining that the sky is falling or sharks are bankrupt or where’s the $40 million in the bank or ‘sharks are going to be at kogarah for long time and I won’t go there, as I hate the place so I won’t support the sharks; honestly they are our team get down there some time, watch a few games and some of that $$ spent goes to club which could help update shark park.
I know I have came down from townsville in 2018, then last yr from Darwin (unfortunately COVID stopping me this year) , however I will be there next yr a lot diving from newie. The reason for it, 1. It’s the team I have been following for many years, 2. Catch up with a friends and family and 3. It is home.

I don’t want us to be like dragons or west’s playing from two - three stadiums.

The uproar on moving to Kogarah is laughable

It's better than merging
It's better than being completely relocated

It's a short drive/free bus or what ever down the road. In a brand new stadium, and will no doubt benefit us financially securing our future.

How dare they !

I actually can't see us moving to Kogarah full time, not for a very long time anyway. Also can't see any upgrades happening to Shark Park.

They could play in Estonia (cracking flag they got). As long as its televised I doubt I'll notice.

That’s good.

If that’s the future, so be it.

Personally I’m drifting away from the game for a number of reasons anyway. But really I’ve probably just outgrown caring about professional Rugby League. It really doesn’t represent anything that I consider worthwhile anymore.

I go to Shark Park out of habit and I enjoy it. But I’m no longer stretching myself for this sport. I’ve done enough, I’ve supported it by investing time and money and the reality is that they’ll just continue to stray away from the things I actually value in the sport. It just seems like a constant battle to maintain something that the world doesn’t want.

Quite frankly it’s a waste of energy.

So yeah, It’s probably just a good time to say goodbye anyway.

More free time to do things that are actually constructive.

The primary reasons for the upgrades are right there in the article - to drive construction, jobs, economy and speaking from personal experience it does work (depending what industry you are in ofcourse). That you get a nice shiny new stadium out of it at the end is almost secondary but is at least one less thing to have to do for the foreseeable future. Sydney isn't getting any smaller population wise either. there really is no urgent need to upgrade these stadiums from a purely NRL/crowds perspective though as it stands hence they want to leverage other sporting codes to make it seem worthwhile.

As much as I love old suburban grounds and sitting on the hill the view of the playing field is nearly always **** house and you need to spend half the game looking at the big screen to see wtf is going on further up field. if more / better seating becomes available and at reasonable prices that's probably a good thing.

I don't see in the article where is says the Sharks would be permanently relocated to Kograh either. our name is probs just hastingly thrown in there to prop up the NRL/local governemnts business case and the fact we currently play out of there while our actual club and stadium is being upgraded up the road and for all intents and purposes by the time kograh is actually redeveloped we will be back at Shark Park

I am more supportive of these sort of plans than those original plans to dump huge money into ANZ

think we need to just chilax a bit on this one and see how it plays out

If they go ahead with it we'll have no choice eventually. It would mean the end of funding for the likes of Shark Park, Leichhardt etc. Won't take long before those grounds are falling apart.

It won't (well it might if the rent is cheaper than what it costs to host a game at Shark Park) but going off Dino's brief comments I doubt we'd explore moving unless it made sense commercially. Something akin to how Souths were paid to play at ANZ.
