Only 30km..
I can drive that far.Only 30km..
I can drive that far.
Going to start running home from work again soon to get myself ready for next season.
Did my first race yesterday in 18 months due to injury and illness. Only 30km but was great to clear the cobwebs out in some rainy, windy and muddy conditions!
I could do that, only problem would be I'd need a week to do it.
Well can't believe this. One of my work colleagues was talking about doing the City to Surf this year. I've never done it but heard myself saying "I'll do it if you do!"
Next thing you know a plan has now started. Actually, I'm happy to give it a go, I will need a new pair of knees though.
Anyone on here ever done it?

Good on you, Chadley!
I haven't done C2S, too many people for me. I prefer the smaller events.
Grab yourself a training program online (I'm sure the race website will have them). Start off slowly, when I first started I couldn't even run more than 200m without having to stop and walk. You can do it!!!
You will have a great time.
Thanks for the encouragement HB! Yes, too many people is my only concern. And not having run it before will mean I'll start back in the pack and probably be trampled by thousands of people. Anyway, it's a bit of fun. But I'm a competitive bugger by nature so I won't like people running past me!
Certainly will start slow. Need to lose many more kilos in the next month or so. I've been as heavy as 152kg before, but am now at 128kg. I want to get down to 110kg. I'm tall at 6ft 5 so I carry it OK.
I was always a skinny kid but got up to 93kg (I'm 6ft). Leaving home killed me, diet went pear shaped, drinking too much and no exercise. I looked in the mirror one day and thought if I don't do something I'll end up at 120kg before long. So that's why I started running. I dropped 17kg very quickly.
For C2S, there are obviously some big climbs so maybe incorporate some hill walking into your training. It's not a bad idea to walk them in the race unless you're very confident you can run the entire distance. You don't want to blow up with 5km to go. Once you get more experience it becomes easy to run up the big hills.
If you're starting towards the back then don't worry too much about the amount of people. Just get through the race and enjoy the atmosphere. If you enjoy yourself there are plenty or small races these days where you can push yourself a bit harder if that's what you want.
Sounds good mate, thanks to you and Deano for all the advice. I was really worried I agreed to it before but now I'm feeling a bit better about it.

Started your training yet mate?
