We didnt dominate the ruck once last night, everytime we got tackled by souths we ended up on our backs - when we tackle them they are either still standing or on their front ready to jump up and play the ball - our defence is nowhere atm.

Barrett is past it and it shows with his very predictible & slow plays. When we got the ball out wide EARLY we actually looked pretty dangerous.

There are only a few blokes playing with passion out on the park and it shows in that disjointed display we all saw last night.

Ricky isnt going anywhere unless he walks away on his own as the club cant afford to pay him out - fact. Not sure what the answers are, but the coaching staff need to find it QUICKLY!!

Lets use some of the talent we have in NSW cup & Toyota Cup - time for the dead wood to fall away!!

I beg to differ. Covell? Millington? Pomeroy? Barrett, even?

Well unfortunately for us an argument could be made effectively for each! Still think Kely tho.

Broderick Wright can play 2nd row can't he? Maybe he is our answer for Millo as neither Millo or Poms are playing well enough for a spot.

Completely agree with everything you said. In terms of burnout that exactly what Ricky has said to him. In the post-match interview Ricky said that he had a talk with him earlier in the week and said he doesnt expect him to fulfill his potential until 2012 which reportedly relieved Kelly a bit and that he will not burn him out in first grade. I wouldnt expect to see him dropped this week which will be good for him and us and then we will see him in a few weeks.

I will say though, even with all his mistakes, he looked very dangerous with the ball. Promising for the future. Don't want to see him against the Eels though.

Personally, I'd be okay with him to going around against parra again next week, at fullback. I'm not sure I expressed myself so well- I don't want to see him at 5/8th, I want Baz to be there with Smith inside. Drop Kelly down a grade soon though, look after him. You probly don't agree so much anymore!

Millo was really good in Round 1, not so good in round 2 and non-present last night. I'd drop him to the bench. Brod Wright will probably come in, I'd be okay with that- bit of fresh, winning blood can't hurt. Might tidy up our ruck defense a bit too.

No I still agree. The impression I got was that you think Ricky has to reassure him and help him through this and then either play him for another couple of weeks then drop him or drop him now. The main thing is communicating with him and letting him know that we are all aware we dont expect him to be the saviour. We are going to let him develop.

That team is stacked full of talent. Most talented team we've put out in years. Fergo, Toops, Snow, Doug, Aiton, Flano, Baz, Stapo, Kelly, Cuthbo and Vave are all really talented footballers. And there will be even more next week when Smith comes in. Talent is not the issue.

Similarly, effort is not an issue. They tackled their backsides off. If anything, they got so frustrated that their effort went unrewarded that they got angry again- as Gus Gould pointed out in his column after we lost to the Drags last year, angry football isn't winning football.

Those two factors are why we should have hope. They're talented and they're trying, we've just forgotten how to win.

The problem is execution. We keep dropping the footy. We don't get to our kick, and we don't find space often enough with the kick, and certainly don't get enough repeat sets. And we haven't defended as a unit enough last night or last week.

Get those things right and the points, confidence and wins will come. We need some calm, and plenty of belief in that team right now. Not "passion" or "strike power".

I think a talk from someone outside the camp could do wonders this week.

Ha, yep, that's what I meant.

I am watching last nights game now, and I believe I am watching a team of sharks players which lack a lot of confidence, and to a certain extent, passion.

Im not saying the boys dont love our team etc, but I think they are so confused over which style of play they are suppose to adopt, they are simply struggling to figure out who they are supposed to be.

We defend with no passion, we jog about 3 meters off the defensive line and then come to a stand still, stgeorge on the other hand run with full agression about 5 or 6 meters in a group, then keep charging at the player, giving them no room to move.

It seems to me, due to scrutiny by the media and fans about our attack, we are putting so much time and energy into trying to become a crafty touch football team, we have taken all our focus away from defense, and now it seems its one of the worse in the comp.

I think ricky should give a speech similar to this one here.

Put Kelly in one of the lower grades for the time being. Stuart will keep close to him. Leaving him in there against Parra/Manly would be cruel.

Still can't see any of this swinging a result our way anytime soon though. It's a horrible year that will go in slow motion.

This all stems back to us putting up with poor management of that place for the last 10 years. Need that new board to bring in some cash so we can get back on an even playing field.

OT ... I'm speaking to more and more die hard Rabbits fans who are getting sick and tired of Sandows grubby tackling and brain explosions....

The problem last night was that the our best players weren't our best players. Barrett was bad, Gallen was horrible (yes - effort was there but some costly misses in defense and plenty of turnovers) and Aiton (who has been good the last 2 weeks) had a shocker. The props were good and Stapleton played well in the centres and Morris was very good in defense, but that was about it.

I'm amazed that Covell is getting the blame for anything from last night. There were two tries scrored down that side of the park: the first was a bad miss from Gallen and poor movement from the player inside him and on the second Covell was marking 4 players - and nearly stopped it. The bunnies wouldn't have scored if it wasn't for Merritt throwing one of the most blatent forward passes I've ever seen. Covell actually slowed that play down enough for the inside guys to cover up, but they didn't.

Burgess, I agree with most of your post. Simply can not believe that people are giving Gallen points in 3 2 1!! I thought Aiton was ok, but would like to see him backing himself alot more from dummy half. The constant one out stuff is just painful to watch.

Covell was certainly not the worst last night. J Mo will tackle all day but he never has been and never will be a creative attacking player. He deadset must be a mentalist, conning coaches, because this is the third club that are trying to mould him in to this type of player. Do they not learn from the previous coach's/ club's errors????

Gallen drops a ball and he's had a shocker? Haha you lot are incredible.

Here's some facts on Gallen from that game.

* 159 metres from 21 runs. The highest average metres in 2nd row last year was 137. Watmough. The highest average runs was 18.
* 28 tackles
* 4 missed tackles. Watmough average 3.8 last season.

Yeah you're right. The stats aren't too bad and they are better then average.

I just think he looked flat compared to his usual dynamic self. He had his head down a lot and didn't look too happy. His body language in back play was not good. You probably wouldn't have been able to see that on TV.

The only reason why I said that he was bellow his best is because his usual standard is so bloody high. His past performances have set the bar really high and that's a credit to him.

Despite his "poor" game, I'd still take him over any other forward in the comp.

Yeah - maybe Ricky knew Smith was coming and wanted to see how Flanagan went off the bench last night. From all reports Morris doesn't actually want to play in the halves - apparently he wants the #9 and to be honest he deserves it.

I may have been a bit hard on Gallen, but he wasn't one of our best three. One of his missed tackles gifted Souths their first try, and he was caught rushing up out of the line badly for Souths last try.

They all had bad body language, even before the game. They also had it before the Warriors game. Especially Barrett. Knew we'd lose as soon as I saw that.
