After watching the game last night it would be dam hard to catch most of those bombs.
They moved around so much in the air, no wonder Kelly had difficulty in catching them.

Also having at times 3-5 Souths players charging at you 100 miles an hour would scare the gee bees out of me.

Lets hope they can regroup and put a stronger performance this week end.

Also great to meet some forum members to.

Funny thing also, we had the Toyota Cup squad sitting next to us in the stand and the ticket chick kicked them out of the seats because they didn't have a ticket.
That's our future she was messing with.

couple of very simple and fundamental things that help you win games...especially in the wet.

completed sets, meters gained, missed tackles

totally easy things to achieve for a professional if that's the mentality they go into the game with. if we focussed on the basics we'd do a lot better than throwing out low percentage plays early in the tackle count

we tried the little kicks and the miracle offloads far too often last night were not a team with the big name players who can produce something out of nothing. We have to focus on the basics cause if we do we will win.
Its something so easy yet so hard for the boys to do.

Albert Kelly showed some good signs playing fullback, i hope that Ricky persevers with him in that position, he seems to be dangerous on the kick return and gets himself in open space rather well.
Is it worth moving Barrett to halfback and Tim Smith to 5/8, the footage i have seen of Smith tells me that he might be the tonic we need to ignite our backline and give us more attacking options.

Our fowards are lacking venom in attack and defence atm, a bigger effort is required against the likes of Moi Moi, Hindmarsh and co.

People are wondering why Gallen is getting points in the 3,2,1 thread but it is easy to see that no one on here knows who to give points to as no one had a good game. I can honestly say that I had no idea who to give points to but I just thought that while Gal, Cuthbo and Cov were not good, I thought they were least bad. That is depressing in itself.

Personally I think we are badly coached allround. Topou had a total of 6 touches of the ball last night, which is pretty much his total for most games for mind that's just wrong. Barrett has kept his hands in his pockets since we signed him. Gallen is over involved which is killing his venom. All in all the boys just look lost out on the paddock. when they do turn it on it's short lived because of lack of support, handling issues etc. it's like open space and attaking plays are foriegn to the poor buggers. I blame all of this on the coaching Staff. Have a look at the Quality of players in the side and you might see my point. I could go on about this but I have to dry eyes and pour another.

Where do I start after that ****ING terrible performance. I no where to start RICKY STUART, please put all us true Sharks supporters out of our misery and leave this club. You could not teach a fish to breath under water. Why the bloddy hell did you not get someone to tell Kelly to move away from fullback once they continually put up bombs to him. I know why you didn't, because you are clueless.

Trent Barrett, please tell me that you broke your ribs or something and just toughed out the game. Because we sure don't need you in the Cronulla Sharks team. I doubt Trent would be able to set up a try in a local first grade game. Please let us see some sort of Tim Smith/ Josh Lewis/Albert Kelly halves combination next week, they will be able to score us some points.

Albert Kelly, while you monumentally ****ed up in abysmally trying to catch those high balls, you were great in everything else you did. Ran the ball back with pace and didn't mope on the ground like that pussy Nathan Stapelton. I'm so sick of Stapelton and his bitchness.

Paul Aiton and Shane Flanagan were pretty solid and I'm continually impressed with our hooking rotation week in week out. Wether it be with Morris starting or Aiton starting, we always have a good hooker rotation which is pleasing.

To finish it off, I am really sick and tired of watching this same old crap style that Ricky is 'teaching' these blokes. Time to go Ricky. Na Na Na Hey Hey Hey GOODBYE!

Agree with the sentiment. Bit it's been a LONG time since I saw Shane Flanagan lace on the boots and play a game. However Stuart Flanagan, showed some spark and qickness out of dummy half.

As for Albert Kelly, Sticky said at the post match function that he (Albert) was going to be a great player "in the future" and that he would play him occasionally in the top grade.

I think all the pressure from 2008/09 about how we couldn't score points is killing us now. It made Ricky and the team concentrate so much on attacking football they've gone away from their strengths; possession, the wrestle and staunch defence.

Our attack was awful in 2007 but our defence meant we rarely lost by more than 4-6 points. 2008 our attack I don't think was much better, but our defence improved more and we began winning by 2-4 points run 3rd, making the GF play off. 2009 was just a putrid disaster beyond comprehension let alone control. Now in 2010 the majority of the squad is new, as well as very young, so it'll take some time to forget about trying to play like Benji and (re)instil those basics and suffocating defence.

Albert Kelly voted best of bad bunch
Josh Massoud and James Phelps
March 30, 2010 11:00PM

HERE'S an indictment of how bad Cronulla players thought they went against Souths on Monday night: Rookie fullback Albert Kelly - who fluffed four bombs in what most commentators described as a nightmare run-on debut - won the players' player award.

We don't want to denigrate Kelly - he's clearly a young man of great footballing potential and Sharks coach Ricky Stuart is on the money when he says the 18-year-old could be a superstar in 2012.

But given Kelly's ordeal in the unfamiliar No. 1 jersey, it came as a huge surprise to learn he was voted best of a badly beaten bunch despite proving some much-needed spark in attack.

How about one of the team's tireless props in either Luke Douglas or Kade Snowden? If both were playing elsewhere they'd already be in State of Origin calculations.

We know for a fact the Newcastle Knights are already counting the days until Snowden's contract expires next year to lure the Hunter boy back home.

ABC programs Four Corners and The 7.30 Report are on stand-by to launch investigations into the Scott Prince salary cap allegations.

We've been told that an ABC journalist contacted Titans CEO Michael Searle last weekend, just hours after the story broke. Like many of his peers, the journalist believes there's still much more to uncover and has spoken to the builder who levelled the allegations, Alex Simpson, about briefing producers at the ABC.s broadcaster's television department.

Ummm.. It was the players player award. It was probably done as a vote of confidence in the guy. It's basically the other players telling him to keep his head up. It's hardly a bad thing.

I agree. I didn't vote because I really couldn't pick anyone out that deserved it.

South Sydney...

The Training Ground. Don't let the ease of Souths' first victory of the year fool punters or supporters: this was an easy win primarily because Cronulla were atrocious. Whilst the inclement weather might have been a mitigating factor, there was no excuse for the lacklustre way the team surrendered this match in front of their home fans.

Souths has a good team, and whilst this column was surprised to see them win so comfortably, the original prognosis remains unchanged. They need to find a more reliable support for John Sutton, with Chris Sandow's tendency to kick the ball at the most inappropriate times his most damaging trait. When Sutton has it this easy, his kicks seem to find the mark and his play is controlled. Put this pair against the brick wall that is the Dragons defence, and neither will have much effect.

Apparently Isaac Luke was reading this column last week, as it erroneously noted that Monday's game was to be played at Homebush. One wonders how many Sharks players thought the game was there too.

someone who isnt a fullback dropped 3 very difficult catches and got taken out on one (didnt look like catching it though). that aside he was probably our best, i nearly gave him points in the 3-2-1, ball in hand he was great.

I am glad Kelly has been left in the team at fullback. He will get better and I think he will be very good for us. Presto started his career for us as fullback and he was moved to half back due to Peachey coming back.
We all need to leave Kelly alone, man up and get back to Shark park to support the boys. Stop focusing only on the results. Once we fix up the little things we are going to win games of football. We may not win the comp this year but that is no reason to give up.

Well said Lumpy.

I totally agree with you.

We also have to take into account it was a foul night weather wise so hopefully we'll get a dry night on Saturday.

That should help with the ball control.

One thing the lads did which cost us was going for the Hail Mary plays all the time.

Ricky really should've shown the boys a vid of the Souths v Chooks game and that would tell you the Roosters did a lot of dummy half running which tired the Rabbits big forwards.

Had we done the same thing, we may have put ourselves in a position to win the game.

I'm just watching a bit of the replay on the NRL website.

Geez we started well, pretty much perfect. A 50/50 penalty against Tupou for holding on in the ruck and then a shocking read and not aggressive enough in defence on our goal line.

Barrett's first few kicks have were great, finding space in each corner.

Went down hill from there of course, but good start. And El Coco is right- Kelly started really well!

If you wanna have some fun, go watch some of the Rabbitohs tries closely. Notice anything?
